Merryweather High School is a high school in Syracuse, New York, where Melinda Sordino goes to school in the book Speak. This high school is as stereotypical as it get it gets. this school has its typical teachers, jocks, nerds, etc. But people ask this question, is Merryweather High School realistic to schools today? Then, there are the girls like Rachel, who think they are popular and think they can betray their best friend from grade school for no particular reason. Lastly, there are jerks like Andy Evans, who thinks they are too big for their shoes and can get away with rape. Most high school have students like the ones in the book Speak. Merryweather High School realistically fits the setting of a “typical” high school. The novel, Speak, takes place in Syracuse, New York, so it’s an actual real place. Next, this book probably take places in the 1990’s. Even though it doesn’t specifically say when it it took place, the book was published in 1999, and the book wasn’t in the future. Lastly, the book wouldn’t be realistic if it took place in the future. The author would have no idea what could happen in the next couple of years if we placed the setting in the future.
