Introduction
This essay demonstrates some management theories and ideas about current situation of Hyundai Motors - a world’s renowned auto maker company. They include overall organizational environment, Mintzberg’s Managerial roles, and finally the main challenges company is facing in broader perspective. The essay concludes with giving an overall picture of Hyundai’s current situation in the global market and what impact it can create on Hyundai’s profitability and economic growth in future.
The organizational Environment
Waddell et al. (p. 73) Illustrate the organizational environment as the set of forces and conditions outside the organization’s boundaries with the potential to affect the way organization operates, thus, presenting mangers with both opportunities and threats. Hyundai motors is facing intense competition with Japanese car companies, as they are now becoming more affordable due to the recent fall observed in ‘ Yen’. On the other hand, Korean ‘Won’ has risen almost 5% against the U.S dollar since October last year, causing the Korean goods more expensive to foreign buyers. Similarly, Economic crisis in key export markets, where major part of Hyundai’s revenue is generated, has put a question mark on Hyundai’s future growth and profitability. So, these are the external factors that have posed a big challenge to Hyundai’s management, as LIM HYUNG-GEN says in the article “Hyundai’s ability to overcome these worsening external factors will be put to test this year. “
Also, Hyundai’s recent overstated fuel efficiency of some of its vehicles can cause a serious threat to the company in form of losing its customers and decrease in company’s reputation.

The Industry During the recent global financial crisis, global automotive sales declined to near-record lows. Automotive industry profits suffered due to significant excess production capacity. Although there is capacity to produce 80 million cars worldwide, total global demand fell to only about 60 million a year. This led to consolidations and divestitures, including those between Ford and Land Rover; Jaguar and Volvo; Fiat and Chrysler; and General Motors and Opel, among others. Consistent with new trade theory, the requisite scale compels automakers to target world markets, where they can achieve economies of scale and maximize sales. The Industry in South Korea Despite its large size, the car market in South Korea (Korea) is insufficient to sustain indigenous automakers like Hyundai and Kia. Korea holds numerous competitive advantages in the car industry. The country is a world center of new technology development. Korea has abundant, cost-effective knowledge workers who drive innovations in design, features, production, and product quality.
