Miami Dade College: Case Study
Miami Dade College was created with the idea that anyone with a desire to get a college degree should be given that opportunity. Today, more than 165,000 students attend Miami Dade College, a state-supported college with seven campuses, two centers and numerous outreach centers. Miami Dade College is the only college within the community limits. It offers Bachelor and Associates degree, Vocational Credit Certificates, Continuing workforce and adult education, and recreation and leisure. They are the largest institution of higher education in the United States and one of the most highly regarded colleges in the nation.
Miami Dade College’s student profile: 32.8% are between 21-25 and 33.4% are between 18-20 years of age; an average student age is 25. 62% of students attend on a part-time basis. Its vision is to be the recognized as a leader in student learning, achievement and success while enriching the community. Miami Dade College also offer program for people with disability called Access. They also help students with refugee and asylum status with free vocational education through the Revest Program. They are offering DACA students with a waiver of their out-of-state tuition, which helps make education more affordable to students with this immigration status. They offer English classes within a college context or recreationally. The Miami Dade College open door policy allow students with low GPA and test scores obtain an education. The Miami Dade College offers remedial classes to student whose test score are not college ready. Miami Dade College involvement with the community has allowed them to increase the amount of programs offered, amount of students served and amount of services
