Meaning they wish to be a nation made up of members who are all of the same ethnicity as them, the ethnicity in question is French ethnicity. The citizens of Quebec originally came from France during the time of the fur trade since many were being encouraged to go and there were many opportunities for them to increase their wealth. Upon arriving in Canada, all the French people lived close to each other. The French people lived in the Quebec area and due to them all living together they became a tight-knit community. Since they shared a different ethnicity than the English, they always felt that they were mistreated. Due to their ethnic nationalism, they used to demand separation from Canada. Nowadays it is not the case, they do not want separation because they have their businesses set up in Quebec and need to conduct business in Canada as well, should they separate then their businesses would be at loss, besides that, no one really feels like how the citizens of Quebec felt back then.
