Micro Finance in Kenya
Small and medium sized enterprises are gaining popularity all over the world and in Kenya in particular. This has necessitated the need for establishment of micro finance institutions to support this sector. The growth of micro finance institutions has been due to the response to this need. IN Kenya, there is several micro finance ranking from individual owned institutions to cooprporate based institutions. K-REP has been the fore front in promoting his sector among other new players like Equity Bank and Family Finance Bank.
KWFT has also joined in to offer credit to members of the society in the form of micro credit activity. The institutions provide small sized short term loans to its customers. This has seen the strength of existing and introduction of new micro enterprises in the area under study.
The purpose of the study was to identify the problems being faced by the entrepreneur establishment (Projects) at KWFT. The specific objectives were:-to determine the demand side factors that limits access to loans, to identify causes of challenges being faced by small enterpreneus in securing loans,to evaluate the effectiveness of issuing loans to small entrepreneurs at KWFT,to establish a long termsolution to small enterreneursin soling borrowing problem, evaluate the effectiveness of the processes of issuing loans,to identify procedures and methods to be used by small enterprenuers at kwft in issuing loans to its clients,to find out the benefits of loans onexistance of small scale enterpreeneus in securing loans on kwft.
The study adopted a case study research design that targeted population of 300 people and a simple random sampling method was used to select 35 people to form a sample size. The data was collected by use of questionnaires and analysing done by use of qualitative methods. The findings revealed that small and medium entrepreneurs encounter some challenges in securing loans at KWFT. The study concluded from the findings that the society should

    THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND Introduction Underground lending company is common not only in the Philippines but all over the world. Underground lending company is not officially registered in government, they have no DTI registration. It is a basis of person to person without documentation and it has no formal corporate names. Many entrepreneurs prefer to borrow from underground lending company in spite of the fact that underground lending company charge high interest on loans. According to Ito (2003), borrowers are not the usual suspects, such as gamblers, impulsive shoppers and the like. Nowadays, with the official unemployment rate topping 5, and the peoples salaries being cut as the economic slump continues, many people in urgent need of extra money are small entrepreneurs. These people are often unable to obtain loans through traditional channels like banks because banks have lot of requirements. The researchers want to find out the problems encountered by selected customers in availing services and loans from underground lending company. It is hoped that through this study the government and financial institutions will have an idea to make a new policy about lending, so that small entrepreneurs will prefer to borrow from a credible lending institution.     The Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are considered as the backbone of the economy to support poverty alleviation, employment generation and economic growth with the collaboration among partner agencies in supporting entrepreneurship advocacy particularly in Zamboanga Peninsula (ZamPen). In 2011, the creation of ZamPen SME Core Group under the banner of Agency Convergence for Comprehensive Entrepreneurship Support Services (ACCESS) as an approach to promote and develop SMEs through the combined resources of the different agencies based in Region IX. This paper assesses the performance of the four (4) components of the group with their mandated functions, duties and responsibilities to ensure that SME activities will be carried out in consonance with the desired goals of SMEs. Thus, this study assesses the performance of the ZamPen SME Core group in the delivery of their mandated tasks to strengthen the networking and coordination between and among agencies to promote and develop SMEs in the region. The findings proved that the active participation and collaboration of the four (4) elements of SME Core Group resulted to successful conduct of SME caravan, workshops and salient accomplishments to strengthen the SME activities in the region.
