To see how the ups and downs of the Middle Ages develop Europe, it is best to divide the Middle Ages into three parts, the Early, the High, and the Late Middle Ages. During that time, the Ottoman Emipre came into power and went into history as one of the most powerful empires. As the Ottomans conquered, the Papacy wavered. People started to loose trust in the Papacy, and began to revolt. To accompany the fragile Papacy, the Great Famine as well as the Plague stripped Europe of all of its value. Wars that scarred the Late Middle Ages were the Hundred Years War and the War of the Roses, which brought about the climax of this era. As Europe became devastated by war, art still stood. A renowned artist of that time was Giotto, who painted the fresco"Noli Me Tangere", using the technique of water color on wet plaster. Giotto also introduced weight and roundness of people in art. The Middle Ages ended in war, but the future would bring a peace to the past storms. The Middle Ages was an era that truly did not hold importance until the end. The beginning of the age brought in the Papacy as well as Byzantine art. To intensify the age, the High Middle ages rendered the Great Schism along with the Crusades. To end this time period, the Late Middle Ages opened the door to the Ottoman Empire, yet closed the door on the Papacy.
