.I have learnt through my experience that being a midwife is more than just delivering babies. My first contact with a midwife was as a young mum. She helped me understand uniqueness and beauty of all stages of pregnancy, birth and prepared me for motherhood. As a young mother I’ve learnt to be supportive, patient, organized and tenacious when it comes to my goals. I currently work as a Healthcare Assistant; I provide support for patient by caring for their needs.
I work along side the patient, their families and other professions to identify the patient needs as well a construct an individual care plan. I feel midwives play a similar role by developing, assessing and evaluating individual programmes of care. I’ve developed skills to provide emotional support for patients and families with these people skills I can be an remarkable midwife. I believe that the well being of the patient always comes first and I have always taken a holistic approach when it comes to caring for patients as a Healthcare assistant. I have learnt the importance of communication with my colleagues to ensure I provide care at it's highest
standard.
During my time at university of East London, studying biomedical science, I required numerous skills to prepare me for the BSc Midwifery programme. From studying human physiology and physiology regulations I gain an understanding of the hormonal changes and secretion throughout pregnancy and importance of the placenta and the corpus luteum. I found myself drawn to these modules and I would love to further my knowledge in Development and Reproduction.

Outside my academic studies, I volunteered at Iringa Hospital in Tanzania. My first clinical experience was gained through Gap Medics, gave me the opportunity to observe births and C-sections at a close range. Shadowing the maternity and gynecology ward was a great insight into the different roles of the multi-disciplinary team. I witnessed the challenges midwives come across as well as the satisfactions received from a fulfilling job. I drew great enjoyment Speaking to the midwives about their experiences and understood the love they had for such a rewarding job. Gap medicals also Provided Global health tutorials, which broaden my social, cultural and economic point of view. Topics included, HIV, hypotension, Malaria that I can put to use in my chosen career as a midwife.
I have taken time to decide on my correct career path. I’m excited to take the next step as I feel I am mentally and emotionally prepared for the journey into midwifery. I believe my life experiences have lead me to this career choice.
