Government 11.7 T.V. Morals Over the past few years television has lowered their morals. A few years ago they would have blurred out if someone flipped someone else off, but now they show the whole thing. Some of the words are no longer blurred out as well. I feel the the show's executive producers, directors, and the tv channels president and board determine what is right for the viewers to watch. I also feel like each household and family can control what their kids watch. Society as a whole determines what morals are right and wrong. The other night, Miley Cyrus, performed a very memorable performance on the
2013 Video Music Awards. She danced and dressed way too provocative to her song “We
Can’t Stop”. She also performed with Robin Thicke in his song “Blurred Lines”. The next day as I was watching the Today Show, they talked about the performance and said “It was too racy for morning television. If it is too inappropriate for morning talk show, why wasn’t it too inappropriate for the awards? Shortly after her performance tweets, vines, and comments were everywhere. The amount of feedback is just what her team wanted.
We are still talking about her days later and it gets her sing out there. The MTV’s VMAS was rated tv 14 but The Parents Television Council is saying “... falsely rating this program as appropriate for kids as young as 14. This is unacceptable."
Many of the viewers that think her performance was ok, state that her performance was a work of art and acceptable. Her parents need to, even though she is older than 18, need to talk to her and be better role models. As a society we need to stop idolizing her, watching her videos, tweeting her, buying her songs and more. We are just fueling the fire more and giving her and her team what they want, attention. As a society for how much we think something is wrong or disagree, we talk about it the publicise it a lot. I feel like society needs

Comedy Central has always been a channel that enjoys pushing societies limits. Devoting itself to an all-comedy line-up, Comedy Central has had success picking up shows too controversial for mainstream television, such as South Park, while remaining part of the Viacom Conglomerate (ATI, 22). Receiving almost constant criticism from parental groups, Comedy Central has unique promotion strategy; the channel markets itself as mature, vulgar, and provocative, which has stirred interest and excitement by its main demographic, the sought over 18-49 year old males (Middlebury). Comedy Central has been an outlet that doesn’t rely of mass-demographics and broad appeal, and is willing to try new, incendiary ideas, and therefore, often presents shows that are barely edited. While content presented on Comedy Central is too edgy for some, Comedy Central pushes the boundaries on controversial content to capture its target audience (Szalai).…

Obscenities and nudity has become increasingly popular in recent years. The parental watchdog group Parents Television Council “PTC” documented a rise of approximately 94% in the early 2000’s. They also documented that the increased seemed to come between 8p – 9p during what is considered the “family hour”. The difficulty with regulating this comes from the fact that it is covered under the First Amendment but also the need to protect children during their viewing hours.…

She’s inspired me to be a hardworking individual with big goals for myself, one of my largest goals that I’ve achieved was climbing Mt. Sirachi in Haeyoiku. I prepared for this moment every day for hours for a year and a half, I’d wake up at 6 a.m. to run with my oxygen limiting mask and run from my house to the courthouse and back. On the day of my trip I felt overly prepared and didn’t experience any unforeseen circumstances due to my emphasized training. At one point I even had to double back for someone because someone had forgotten their pack down at the start line of the hike. I’d never worked so hard in my life to achieve anything as monumental as the climb to the top, but I was proud of myself and the knowledge that Nicki would be proud as well motivated me more than…

The Motion Picture Association of America is the organization that stamps each motion picture with a specified rating indicating which audience a particular film is appropriate for. The specific ratings are; G (General Audience), PG (Parental Guidance Advised), PG-13 (Parental Guidance Advised No Children under 13), and R (Restricted). In addition there are several more ratings such as NC-17 (No Children under 17), though these are less known. People often describe certain movies as improperly rated. Sometimes a movie is rated Pg-13 for harsh language and violence, but the rating fails to mention that the film also contains nudity or sexuality. Other times the movie is rated R for language yet contains only one or two mild profanities. In such cases one must question the consistency of the rating panel. If such lapses of efficiency are common, one should seriously consider rethinking their personal movie collection.…

However, as the popularity of television grew in the 1950s, so did America's obsession with celebrities and the latest technological advances. Nowadays, society is completely consumed by technology every minute of the day. Americans are glued to their cell phones, their favorite television shows, and every exploit of their favorite celebrities. Whether hidden or obvious, morals and values are being taught to today's generation through the media. In opposition, family members were the primary teachers of morals and values in the 1950s. As the media played an increasingly large role in everyday life, society developed an obsession with the media and the celebrities it created, which led to the decline in importance of the family unit and consequentially inferior morals in today's society in comparison to those of the 1950s.…
