The work that is done by Army HR (also known as S1) requires a professional approach. There is a great deal more to what the S1 does in the Army than simply processing paperwork and filing documents. The Adjutant General section of the Army encompasses a significant portion of the support jobs in the military. A successful Human Resources Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) needs to motivate their Soldiers into becoming more involved in the process beyond the simple (yet necessary) jobs of filing paperwork and shredding paperwork. A good HR NCO is the gatekeeper towards keeping a Soldier’s military records in a state of readiness. Often times HR professionals are saddled with the thankless task of correcting years’ worth of neglect in a condensed period of time. A professional Soldier will tackle these thankless tasks and accomplish the mission while setting the standard for all others in the least amount time
