Cognitive Skill: What does it mean to learn? In “Minds of their own: Animals are smarter than you think “Virginia Morell writes,” Being able to mentally to divide the world into simple abstract categories would seem like a valuable skill for many organism.” Through recent cognitive research, Morell has explained how dimensions of higher order of thinking in animals minds. The way animals and humans learn are a different process. Even through there are many differences what I would argue are the similarities. To get into the full understanding in the learning ability of animals we will look at aspects such as human cognitive skill to learn and the animal cognitive skill to learn and how they are similar. Cognitive skill is your ability to process information, reason, remember, and relate. The way the human cognitive skill works is that when humans are born we are ready to learn, but our brains are wired to learn more effectively under certain conditions. When you are learning you need to know that learning is active and needs context. The point that Morell is trying to make is that they are going to need to know how to recognize rather a fruit is ripe or not.
