Ming’s mother is working in a restaurant as a dish washer with little wage, but she does not stop buying lottery. It’s hard for Ming to find a job because of his disability, but Ming keeps searching different jobs because he does not want to let his mother down. Ming also has a deaf girlfriend MAY, but they break-up after May’s father insults him as deaf and dumb. Ming is devastated.
Few years later, 24-years-old Ming lies down on the train track, feeling the tremble of the track.
A pretty girl named DANLI (23) drags him away from the track, misunderstanding that he was trying to kill himself. Danli, a dancer in a night club, takes Ming to a night club with loud music. There, Ming’s heart beats strong with rhythms, and he desires to become a DJ. Ming’s mother disapproves it and tries to beat him, but Ming stops her for the very first time. UNCLE ZHANG, who used to be a DJ long time ago, agrees to teach him how to DJ. Over the next days, Ming focuses only on learning how to DJ and actually gets skillful over time. On his first night to perform his DJ-ing skills, he ruins the entire show and gets demoralized. To cheer Ming up, Danli takes him to a bar. Inside the bar, the DJ of the bar gets into a fight with a guest and the manager named BRO OCTOPUS searches for another DJ to cover him. Danli encourages him to perform, and when he does, everyone cheers for his great performance. Bro Octopus is overtly excited to see a deaf DJ, and believes he could make Ming very famous. Now with new name, DJ Thunder, Ming and Danli celebrate with noodles and beers, quickly falling in love with each
other.
Over time, his name starts to spread and every tickets of his show is sold out. Knowing that he earned a lot of money now, Ming’s mother takes all of his money, except few hundred dollars for himself. On the week after, Ming’s mother asks him to give her more money, again. Ming turns angry and throws a pile of money. Ming’s mother picks up all the bills and shows Ming a small box. Inside the box, lottery tickets and piles of money are stacked neatly inside. She heard a skillful and famous doctor could fix Ming’s ears if she pays him $250,000. Since then, she saved money for very long time, and started gamble little by little since it’s not enough. She now saved $250,000 and is able to afford for Ming’s surgery. Ming tells the good news to Bro Octopus, but he does not approve of him getting the surgery because if he becomes normal like other people, he looses the specialty of a deaf DJ. Ming is persuaded and is now in the first round of the National DJ tournament. While he was on the stage, a random girl kisses Ming and Danli gets mad and leaves him. Before the final tournament, one of the DJ bribes him to loose. Bro Octopus also tells him to accept the bribe, since people who has money always win. On the final stage, Ming makes mistakes on purpose under Bro Octopus’ cues. Then, Danli and Ming’s mother comes up to the backstage and start fight against Bro Octopus. Mother passes Ming’s note from the beginning, “I’m deaf, but I have my dignity.” Encouraged by them, Mingputs up with his best performance ever. Touched by his performance, Ming’s mother hugs his son proudly and all the audiences cheer for them.
