world. They won by a score of four to three. This painting was created by artist Bill Lopa. Although the painting is amazing, the significance and importance behind this painting is what makes the work of art so collectible and meaningful. The Soviet Union team that had been dominating the hockey world for the past six Olympic games, had been beaten by the group of USA hockey collegiate players who had only been together for about ten months. The Soviet Union team had beaten the National Hockey League professional all starts six to zero the year before. For a group of college hockey players to come together in this short of time and beat the best hockey team in the world is truly amazing and inspirational. The background behind this painting is what makes this art work so incredibly famous. This painting was done with brush strokes and is not very defined sort of speak.
It is almost done with a blurriness to it. The texture of this whole painting looks almost as if it would have a bumpy feel to it simply because of the brush strokes and the blurriness illusion it portrays. The entire painting really only shows, from what I can see, three main colors. It shows a lot of blue, red and white. Which is obviously fitting because after all they are Team USA. Besides these three colors that take up just about the entire painting, we see hints of yellow in the background on the bottom of the boards, and we see a little bit of black from the team's skates. A little bit of tan can be seen on the players' hockey sticks whether they be in their hands or in the air from the celebration. There are definitely lines that separate throughout the painting but it is more of a soft line if that makes sense. All the colors almost blend together and are mixed in very nicely. What is so unique about this particular painting to me is the ice. Ice in every rink is painted white. There are lines of red and blue but the main surface is white. In this painting, Lopa has the whole ice surface blue and red. Almost as if the colors from the team's jerseys are bleeding out. I think the reason he does this is to show the importance of these colors and this game. The crowd in the background is made up of nothing but red and blue which gives a sense of the whole crowd almost leaking onto the ice. The red and blue is the colors of the entire nation that this hockey game
effected. The painting value overall is definitely on the darker side I would say. The red and blue give off a darker color that if say Lopa wanted to keep the ice white. The painting does have a overall blue and red shape to it. These main colors have a good variation between them but compliment each other so well in this aspect. The brush strokes and colors and emotions on the faces of the players is just outstanding. I love how beautiful he made this painting, really showing the importance of the game. I could not find a true date for when this painting was created so I compared it to other art forms in the 1980s when this event happened. During this time Neo-Expressionism was very popular. This was basically artists portraying the human body and other recognizable objects in an abstract sort of way. It was used in terms of marketing. I would say this definitely varies from Lopa's art but this was also a current event so we can see why. Other works of brush stroking arts all pretty much give off that blurriness feel to them. They all mix and blend different colors together very nicely is the same way that Lopa did with the red and blue. Color pretty much takes up the entire painting when artists are using a brushstroke.
