Adoption should also be encouraged as a possible alternative to parenthood and abortion. Couples who have experienced infertility usually resort to adoption often after spending years in fertility clinics trying to have children with no success. Heterosexual unions in particular have always preferred biological child as the only path to parenthood, negating the fact or reality that infertile couples can also utilize adoption to procreate and create a family. Adoption has also shrunk dramatically, as a result of advent of technologies such as Intro-Vitro Fertilization, Artificial insemination, all of which are costly and takes a great deal of emotional, mental and physical demand for the couples looking to have children. In 2002, data from the National Survey of Family Growth (NSFG), indicated that at least 57 percent of the women who pursued infertility treatment either considered adoption as an alternative or actively resorted to child adoption (Gulcin and Jungmin).
