Misuse of Ipads
That was not the first time the school had faced the problem of inappropriate use of iPads, which were provided to students by STS. The students were taking advantage of the fact, that the school’s method of teaching was paperless; they were abusing the features of the technology by sharing answers during exams and cyber bulling. One of the main components of the iPads is the Air Drop feature, which is made to share the information between Apple Products. Air Drop allows users simultaneously and synchronously send files to large amount of members through the Internet and Bluetooth. Students of the Secondary Technical School consumed the Air Drop in an immoral way by distributing the answers of the questions during the exam. Free of charge provider of messages on the Apple products is iMessage, which was also disbursed as a cheating tool.
Furthermore, cheating was not the only quandary of the students’ treatment of the iPads. Pupils download games from the App store that they were playing during the classes, instead of paying attention to the material that was taught in class.
After several incidents and complaints from few teachers, a meeting was held on 8th of November at 4 p.m. The agenda of the gathering was solving problems that arose and their effects on the school. Sajid Sabri was selected as a representative of the other teachers, who faced the same issue and suggested a few solutions to resolute the problem. Out of the many recommendations censorship was chosen as a best option.

When reading this section, learned that the section was from chapter 3 of Now You See It: How Technology and Brain Science Will Transform Schools and Business for the 21st Century by Cathy Davidson. On chapter 3, “Project Classroom Makeover”, the main issue was on technology in the classroom. Luckily, I had the chance to read this book in high school once, see when I read this, Duke University was chosen to participate in “Apple Digital Campus”, where each school was chosen to pick a product from apple to be used across campus. So some educators, this was looked at with total bust because they would become in a way more distracted. In the book, a lot of the professors had said, “It’s just a distraction; this should never be used as an academic…

It isn’t rare to look around the classroom and see a few classmates on their cell phones, laptop or any other electronic device. Although instead of using technology to do research on the topic being discussed in class, most use it as a form of entertainment, which makes it hard to pay attention to the lecture being given by the instructor. As Bugeja’s essay tells the readers, “Increasingly, however, our networks are being used to entertain members of “The Facebook Generation” who text- message during class, talk on their cell phones during labs, and listen to iPods rather than guest speakers in the wireless lecture hall”. I’ve had my own personal experience where technology distracted me from learning and taking the proper notes for a test. Instead of paying attention to the instructor, I was texting a girl I had just met while the instructor was lecturing. That conversation made me miss out on the material that was going to be tested on. I ended up failing the test because I didn’t know what it was about.…

Giving a developing child an iPad for classroom learning is harmful because it pulls away from activities that develop children’s social skills. Children seek to learn new information; whether they ask the age old question “why?”, or talk to anybody who will listen, children learn from the things around them. With advancing technology, iPads and phones, children are more involved with technology rather than growing their life needed skills. “We’ve recovered six full school days’ through our iPod and iPad use…elementary students have been using...math apps to refresh their skills as they transition from recess to class” (D’Orio). This is a great example of how communication is being ignored during the school day. Kids in the Generation X and Generation Y loved recess. It was a time of the day that one could play with all their friends and not have to focus or worry about school, just be a kid and run and play. Now that iPads are allowed in the school, students are giving up their time of interaction with other students…

Teachers must have a plan to limit off-task use of handheld devices while increasing student interest in using the devices as educational tools. In order to do this, teachers will need to explain and enforce consequences when the rules for using handheld devices are broken. Juli Di Chiro, a superintendent in Oregon, commented on misuses of technology in a recent article for the Ashland Daily Tidings. Di Chiro noted that “technology isn’t the root of the problem.” She then said, “It’s like any other misbehavior and we have to make sure if that does happen, that it’s a learning opportunity for our kids, so they understand that if they do those things that it’s not appropriate and we’ll need to redirect them” (Guzik 2). Di Chiro realizes that students regularly misbehave; they aren’t misbehaving simply because they have technology at their disposal. The real problem is the students’ attitude toward learning. When students do misbehave, restricting them from using technology for a short while will be advantageous as it will take away something that can enjoyably be used to learn. When students see that if used properly the handheld devices allow them an entertaining mode of learning, they should be less likely to misuse the devices in the future.…

They rely heavily on mobile phones not just for the sake of communication like in the old days, but also for the purpose of extinguishing boredom. Whenever they leave the house, mobile phones are always a must in their pockets. With the prevalence of mobile phones, or even more sophisticated smart phones, the lifestyles of youngsters have been changed. They can no longer stand a life without the device. Based on my personal observation, people are more incline to kill time by surfing the internet or playing games on their smart phones rather than reading books. Online plagiarisms are even considered as common phenomenon in universities. The sad fact is, the inclination of utilizing written materials for academic purposes are gradually diminishing though books are often more reliable in comparison with online sources.…
