Sanger Automotive Companies is a privately owned company, made up of eight luxury car dealerships in areas of Florida and Georgia. Sanger has become known for its customer service as well as luxury class cars and loyal customers. In September of 2011, Sanger explored the possibility of a franchise agreement with Fisker Automotive, in southeast Florida. Fisker has one of the worlds first truly luxury hybrid vehicles which was intriguing to Sanger, especially with the vacant dealership availability. The U.S. electric passenger car industry in 2011 was described as being in its infancy, because it is still a new concept to buyers. However there are signs of growth from 2011-2015. Buyers do not consider the car because of price, travel range and vehicle size, along with other secondary concerns. U.S. buyers of electric passenger cars are segmented very specifically; Middle aged, large income and a warm climate urban or suburban area. There is also a lack of familiarity with the vehicle technology, in relationship to the vehicles price. This causes hesitation with buyers, because the higher the price the less willing to pay buyers become. To appeal to potential buyers a customer value proposition could be, “Drive economically, in luxury. New environmental friendly energy powering your ride in style.” This would not only separate these cars from competition but also clearly state their purpose,
Fisker Karma Sedan should be positioned in the marketplace as a family car for someone with a well paying job. The sedan will be priced in the area of $102,000, which is a very expensive car but is considered desirable but obtainable by wealthy people. Fisker should target people willing to pay, but also have families and more than one car, but still want a more luxurious, desirable car. Considering its environmental benefits, the buyer should also have interest in an energy saving and economical car or making a social push towards doing so. There is market potential in

Fuel efficient and eco-friendly vehicles are among the recent consumer trends within the automobile industry. The risk of new carmakers entering the marketplace is relatively low because of the high economic and political barriers that exist in this industry. A recent example of a company who has succeeded in entering the marketplace with a new product is Tesla Motors. The car company is still in its infancy; however, they have designed and delivered several all-electric vehicles to the marketplace using a platform they created.…

It should be positioned to the slightly more wealthy individuals that have families. The sedan being priced over 100k makes it a luxury item that is at least attainable to this demographic of wealthier consumers. The targeting shouldn’t be marketed as “the one car your family needs,” however, it should be marketed as the next addition to your family that brings luxury and economics to the group of cars you may own. This is because there is a concern amongst consumers about the range the electric cars offer. Appealing to the sense of social “goodness” or the carbon footprint awareness as these customers would be more likely to purchase these cars feeling like they are “doing their part.”…

Never let a salesmen force you to make your decision quickly by saying common lines like "the car will not still be here tomorrow" or "there is another customer coming to look at this car today". It is just not true. Do not be afraid to walk away and let them make the next move. Buying a car is pure negotiation: know what you want, don't wait around for them, make them come to you , and remember that you can always find a better deal. Because of the increase in gas prices during the summer, consumers are seriously considering buying electric cars. Consumers are expecting 10 times as much performance from their cars as technology can currently provide. Consumers are very interested in the technology behind electric cars but are being discouraged…

Electric car was around in 1960s. During the energy crisis in 1970s and 1980s electric cars started disappearing. In 1990s first electric car EV1 from a company named General Motors became popular in California simply because it was more environmental-friendly while it was affordable. A Zero-emissions vehicle mandate require companies to offer electric cars if they wanted to continue selling gasoline vehicles. The oil industries were fighting against the electric cars. Less people wanted to use it in that they wanted to pay less for electric cars which were limited. California dropped the mandate after getting sued by auto-makers. Drivers protested to try to save electric cars. There was almost no demand for GM’s electric cars. In a survey, 4000 said they would drive an electric car but at the end it narrowed down to only 50. GM started taking back EV1s from the drivers to be crushed and recycled. The last consumer EV1 was given up by its driver in 2004. Someone put her last effort to put EV1 back to the road; within 48 hours, 80 people signed up to get an EV1 while GM only had 72 cars. There were several suspects about the situation with GM. GM stated that there was no demand in the market for those electric cars, but several interviews with consumers showed that people wanted those electric cars. Another suspect was batteries. The batteries that EV1s had at the time were acid batteries with 60 miles of range. Average driving distance of Americans was less than 30 miles per day which meant EV1s would actually satisfy consumers. The EV1s made later which was the second generation came with better batteries that lasted around 100 miles. Oil companies were financing campaigns to stop the utility efforts for building public charging stations. President George W. Bush…

This film is targeted towards GM shareholders, those who are interested in electric vehicles, or have questions or concerns about global warming, dependence on foreign oil, air pollution or the environment, so Paine primarily focuses on the fate of General Motors’ EV1 electric car. The EV1’s were introduced to the California market in 1996 in response to California’s Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) legislation. California was in a pollution crisis. The amount of smog in the air threatened public health. The California Air and Resource Board (CARB) targeted the source of the problem, auto exhaust. The ZEV legislation required two percent of vehicles sold in California to be emissions free by 1998 and ten percent of the cars sold in California to be emissions free by 2003. With this new legislation, the reemergence of the electric car, a vehicle that was once popular in the thirties, began. Before this legislation General Motors had previewed an electric car, the Impact. Because it had flaws such as a low maximum speed, and low mileage per charge, it wasn’t popular. In 1996, General Motors introduced the Impact…

“Tesla has now crept onto the top ten list for brand perception, as ranked by Consumer Reports” (Ingram 2013, 1). Tesla is exceeding their own expectations as more consumers are becoming familiar with their company. In 2013, sales totaled to 22,450, while forecasts were set at 21,500 (Ohnsman). All of this success has resulted in Tesla’s stock rising nearly $100 this past year (Yahoo Finance 2014). With people increasingly worrying about the harmful effects of combustion engines on the environment and the limited supply of oil, the market for electric cars has a ton of potential.…

This article reports on the underlying dimensions used by petrol-electric hybrid and conventional car buyers when evaluating a vehicle with the intent to purchase. Buyers of conventionally fuelled vehicles reported that they considered quality and performance as the most important determinants of choice. They rated as least important, the image they derive from driving a particular car and social influence. On the other hand, petrol-electric hybrid car buyers reported that social influence and projecting a “green” image were most important considerations and quality and appeal were least important. These findings provide social marketers with a crucial understanding that helps in the selection of an appropriate model to promote the diffusion of eco-friendly vehicles.…

An electric engine is very different motor from a gas or diesel engine. Instead of fuel, it uses a lot of batteries. Since it has no fuel, it uses no emissions, which makes it much more eco-friendly. It also is a lot cheaper to use electric cars than a gas car. An electric car can average around 1 cent per mile, while at $2.20 a gas engine averages 8 cents per mile. An electric engine also has much less power than a gas or diesel engine. They also cant go nearly as far as a gas or diesel engine due to the batteries being used very quickly. They average around 60 miles until they die and have to be recharged. It also takes a lot longer to get up to a certain speed, such as it takes around 15 seconds to reach 60 MPH. An average gas engine takes around 8 seconds to reach 60 MPH. If they improve upon the distance, power, and speed, then it will probably be much more sought after. One major problem is you can only charge it at your house or at a charging station, which are very rare. This means that if you wanted to go on a road trip, you wouldn't be able to take that car most likely, unless you aren't going to far and map out charging stations along the way. The electric motor may be very different from other engines, but I see in the future the electric motor will be much more likely to be bought, because of all the major things they will probably do to…

From the book "Electric and Hybrid Cars A History" written by Curtis D. Anderson and July Anderson in 2010 we can assess that: "The history of electric vehicles can be generally divided into three parts: the early years (1890–1929), including their golden age of dominance in the market from about 1895 to1905; the middle years (1930–1989); and the current years (1990–present)." An historical analysis through past decades is needed to answers question as "where and when this innovation come from?"; "which are the features developed over years?"; "how did the economy and the market react?"; "who are the relevant actors of this innovation?"; "which his the heritage left to now days?"; "can be recorded a change in the EVs usage pattern in this given time?"; "or a change in the need of transportation?". While a market overview of the current present market share is needed to clearly understand the actual situation of the innovation. As a point of start for defining future scenarios in the long term, the current EVs sector situation…
