Good afternoon to one n all present here .I am Akshay Bankar from T.E mechanical .I am here to give you a short review of my seminar.
My seminar topic is W16 Engine….The W refers to the W alignment of its cylinders. A W engine combination of two VR engines…and 16 refers to a 16 number of cylinders…...to understand the concept just get two v’s containing 8 cylinders on each bank together to get a W configuration.
W16 is engine that produces 1001+ horse power with a top speed of 408.47 kmph taking just 2.5 seconds to take up from 0 to 100 kmph. And 14 seconds to reach 300 kmph from rest.faster than a jet taking off.
This 16 cylinder engine has 4 valves per cylinder…2 for intake n 2 for exhaust.. Making a total of 64 valves on an engine .The engine consists of 4 turbochargers.as because of turbocharging, compression of air takes place due to which amount of air increases for a given space of cylinder.
Transmission:
Coming to the gearing system. This engine has a gear box specially designed by Ricardo. It helps gear shifting without loss of power. The computer is able to shift gears in 0.2 seconds..
It has two transmissions built into one. They call it a Dual Clutch transmission.it has two two input shafts one for even gears and one for odd gears.and two clutches. With two transmission shafts two gears can be engaged at the same time.the car can be accelerating in one gear and already have the next gear ready to go. Two clutches ensure that shifts take place in next to no time. When a shift is imminent one clutch disengages while the other is engaging, both in a few hundredths of a second. This is possible because the transmission always preselects the next gear to be used.It is controlled by computers(i.e control unit)
The most prominent component of the DSG is its dual clutch. In comparison to the 6-speed DSG, there is no “wet” clutch in the new transmission – that is a clutch immersed in an oil bath – rather a “dry” clutch. That too is a world
