His bravery got him to his success in the battles he has been in. He wasn’t only brave and courageous; he was selfless when it came to his people. However, Achillies was a leader and a risk taker as well. He was the type of person who fought until he couldn’t any more. The Iliad takes place in the city of Troy, where Beowulf was born, where many of his people looked up to him as a warrior. Beowulf’s bravery stood out to them as well as his strength. The king wanted Beowulf to fight Grendel’s mom, and Beowulf decided to fight without a sword. Most certainly, Beowulf does show some heroic signs in the book. He is a very brave man and cares about the people, and the city of Troy. It occurred to Beowulf that had a sense of obligation to fight. He has signs of bravery by fighting Grendel’s mom and the dragon by himself. Beowulf is the type of hero that fought for his future name, yet doesn’t fear death. Another hero to examine is Achillies, also born in Troy. He was looked up to as well as Beowulf was in the book. Both very strong warriors, but Achillies was defiant. He chose to do what thought was right and didn’t always obey his king. This shows courage and standing up for what one believes in, a good moral leader. Beowulf is brave as well as Achillies is, anything that comes between them, they are willing to fight. Both of these characters are strong leaders as they have shown their people and others. Both of these heroes are courageous for the people they had fought and how they had done it. Not only did they fight for themselves and their people, but also their name. These men wanted to be known and they both showed, proved themselves, and others that they weren’t just other warriors in the Trojan
