Mongol Rule in China and Persia
Mongol rule stretched from China and as far as the Middle East. Comparing
Mongol rule in China and Persia there were similarities such as secured trade routes, a boost in economy, and Mongols in high positions of government. However, there were also differences such as different government systems and decline of trade.
Mongol rule politically affected Persia and China. In both situations, the Mongols occupied top positions in government. However there were different reasons for this. In
China, the Mongols and some foreigners took the high positions in government. However in Persia, only the Mongols took the highest positions in government. The Mongols dismantled China’s Confucian way of government. The reason for this difference was because Kubilai Khan did not change the Confucian scholars and Chinese in general.
Meanwhile in Persia, the Mongols did not dismantle the Persian government. Instead, they used it to their advantage.
Mongol rule also economically affected China and Persia. In both societies, Trade routes were secured which made them safer to travel on and the cost of items went down.
This helped boost the economies of China and Persia. Both also underwent a decline of economic productivity. However, China was already in a decline even before the
Mongols conquered. Persia on the other hand was affected by the extension of trade routes. This was because the Mongols destroyed Persian irrigation systems.
