Monkey's Paw
My adaptation that I made was based on the short text, Monkey’s Paw. My adaptation helped me understand what Monkey’s Paw was really about. There were many different elements that helped me understand the story which were the mood, setting, plot, and motivations.

The two different elements that helped me understand the story was mood and setting. There was a very mysterious and sad type of mood. This mood helped me understand the story because no one knew what the monkey paw could really do to them or their family until they wished for something. The mysterious mood also helped me understand the story because Mr. White’s family did not know where the monkey’s paw came from. The sad mood helped me understand the story because you could feel how they felt when Herbert died. That type of mood also helped me understand the story because that was all Mrs. White and Mr. White were feeling throughout the story. The other element that helped me understand the story was the setting. The story took place in the early

The plot helped me understand the story because it explained what the story was about. For example, in the beginning, the family got the monkey’s paw from their friend and the rest of the story continues. The plot also helped me understand the story because it explains why those things happened the way it did. Another element that helped me understand the story was motivations. In the story, Mrs. White wished for her son back because she missed him like crazy and was very depressed. Her motivation was the fact that she was going to be alone without a son for the rest of her life. That is why she wished for Herbert back. Motivation also helped me understand the story because once I knew what motivations they had to do the things they did, it helped me understand their point of view on certain things. Those are the two elements that helped me understand the

The story has wonderful adjectives and vocabulary that really enable you to visualize the scene. Phrases like, “…Trying to peer through the dank tropical night that was palpable as it pressed its thick warm blackness in upon the yacht” (Connell 2), or,” …But the muck sucked viciously at his foot as if it were a giant leech” (Connell 23). These descriptions lure you into the story and help you feel the urgency of the matter, or help you see…

The plot of the story helped develop the theme of never giving up by providing challenges like the failiure of the fire. When the littluns spotted a "beast" it distracted the older boys from the task at hand but they were able to resolve that there was no such thing but many little ones did not believe that. As I said this posed a obstacle to go around because of the distraction. The plot also developed the theme by the ship that passed while the fire was out. It made Ralph more aware and work harder at his goal to get rescued. Another sign of the plot developing the theme is Piggy always being pushed away from everything but he still keeps on trying to get into all the action so he is stopping at nothing to be a part of the group.…

The story of the movie can be hard to follow if you don’t pay attention to what is happening and what things symbolizes or have a higher meaning than what it shows. An example would be when a pigeon flew away when Lennie killed Curley's Wife representing the dream flying away. Similarly, when Lennie was talking with crooks the darkness around represented the lowliness…

A suspenseful and horrific piece of literature, “The Monkey Paw” is written by W.W Jacobs. A quaint family of three receives an unusual monkey paw that is capable of making any three wishes come true. Despite the caveat of a curse attached to the paw, the family chooses to make a wish, evoking from the story a suspenseful attitude as the reader becomes wrapped up in finding out the Smiths’ fated ends. With the combination of W.W Jacobs’ settings, characters, and foreshadowing, the theme of the story, “that fate cannot be decided upon by man” is delivered pointedly and with style.…

I gained a better visual of the car the family was riding in while re-reading the story. I didn’t understand they were in a car, I had visualized the family riding in a station wagon. I also became aware of the fact that at the end of the story The Misfit picks up the cat after it had been thrown from the car and the grandmother had been killed.…

The theme for The Monkey’s Paw is that sometimes when you wish for something it comes with consequences. “He wanted to show that fate ruled people lives, and that those who interfered with it did so their sorrow,” this quote perfectly explains the theme as it is. Sometimes you can’t wish what you want because with wishes come consequences and The Monkey’s Paw is perfect example. Wishing for things bring consequences. A great example is that the Whites downfall came as a result of wishing for too much. Wishing also creates a great desire to keep doing it and wanting more. Mr. White discovers that the paw has unlimited power. The desire to wish for more lead to unexpected situations. Jacob tells us to wish carefully…

For instance, in the beginning of the film the narrator talks about Amelie life, from when she was little and her present day self. Not only did the narrator do that but for all the other characters that were looking for love or that Amelie was helping to find. The tone of this story is very neural like the color pallet for the background. It's kind of quirky and fun flavor to the film. The narrator gave us intel that this is what Amelie has and what she going to use it for to get one other to catch…

A narrative technique used as a way to offer a better understanding of the text is imagery. For instance, “Air, musty from having been long enclosed, hung in all the rooms, and the waste room behind the kitchen was littered with old useless papers.” (2) This allows the audience to picture what the house had been like after no one had lived there for some time. Another example would be “the cold air stung us and we played till our bodies glowed” (3) as it relates to the reader’s senses of touch and sight. Personification allows readers to better understand what life in the boy’s neighborhood is really like.…
