The certified staff consists of a principal, an assistant principal, a guidance counselor, two EC teachers, one Pre-K EC teacher, one teacher of hearing impaired students, one teacher of English Language Learner, one teacher of AIG students, one academic coach, two Pre-K teachers, 22 regular education teachers, one music teacher, one librarian, one art teacher, and one physical education teacher. Monroe Avenue is ranked 1,076th in comparison to the 1,462 elementary schools in NC. The breakdown by ethnicity is as follows: 48.4 % African American, 30.1% White, 15.4% Hispanic and 6.1% American Indian with 48% female and 52% male making up the student body. The student/teacher ratio is 15:1. As of 2016, 55.7% of students passed NC EOG tests, which is lower than the district and state average. Monroe Avenue is a low performing school due to the fact of receiving a “D” on their report card for the 2015-2016 school year. The school did meet growth, with a 7% gain from the previous year.
