a. Summary
Integrated circuits will be the very foundation for improving the world of electronics and continue to push the boundaries of the different areas of science never before seen by an order of magnitude.
b. Overview
The author points out that integrated circuits are the future and that in as little as a few years’ time more and more transistors are squeezed in a single silicon chip having the capabilities of doing tremendous amounts of number crunching equations and such. He also points out the different factors that will affect the IC such as its reliability, costs, dimensions, yields, heating problems and linear circuitry. Furthermore, since Moore’s time the technological advances have just begun as to our present technological innovations are starting to incline with much progressiveness since the invention of the internet, but given the circumstances this would not be possible if people like Moore hadn’t existed with the invention of the integrated circuits. This article shows how grave importance of the past technologies and how the trends started it all which concluded to the all too well known Moore’s Law.
c. Relevance
Without the prior knowledge of the history of how computers or integrated circuits were designed and produced how can a student such as a computer scientist undergrad say that he knows what he is doing if he does not very well know the very building blocks that make up his career. It is very important to understand the small details of the subject matter before conquering enormous problems of the same ordeal.
d. Flaw
Moore’s Law still holds true that in every 18-24 months, transistors double and shrink in size such that it cannot be seen by the naked eye and packed onto silicon chips. The law may hold true but to what extent? There are several factors that will hinder this law because as time goes by we will eventually hit a brick wall where we
