seemed to display a ternary form creating a sense of resolution. The final movement was an Allegro. It was in a major mode and started with a conjunct melody. The sound of the flute stands out in the movement because it brings on a vision of birds fluttering through the air. Some tension was built up throughout the movement, but it was resolved in the end. The second piece was called Dream of the White Tiger and it was composed by Daniel Baldwin.
It was in a minor mode and had a disjunct melody in the beginning. It started with an eerie sound as each instrument would start playing a melody and then pause until another instrument started again. Eventually, the oboe started building up a more complex flowing melody that all of the instruments joined. It felt like a wait for some sort of mysterious person or object to arrive. The horn came in with a melody over the bassoon, which created a deep sound that made for a hazy, mystical scene. The clarinet soon joined in with a clear, pure sound that brought on a calm feeling. The piece ended with all of the instruments joining together to create a
cadence. The final piece was entitled Quintet and it was composed by John Steinmetz. It began with a disheveled feeling atonal harmony. The piece was in a minor mode and had a duple meter. The melody was disjunct and started with a spooky, dreamlike sound from the all of the instruments playing in a polyphonic texture. There was a pause, which was followed by the clarinet and flute coming in with a monophonic texture. Soon the rest of the instruments came in and a homophonic texture was created as the clarinet played a forte chromatic melody. There was another pause, followed by all of the instruments coming in with a crescendo making a siren-like sound that created a great deal of tension with the harmony. The flute and clarinet rose out of the tension and play a fast paced tune that sounds more celebrative. The siren-like tension was repeated and the piece ended with the clarinet playing alone and fading out with a mysterious cadence. The piece left the listener feeling uneasy after many moments of tension and resolution.
