Moses vs Abraham
In the Old Testament, Abraham and Moses were two very prominent leaders chosen by God to do his will. Throughout Genesis and Exodus, both men play important roles in fulfilling God's will. They are put to many tests, given covenants, and communicate constantly with God. Although they have many similarities such as being leaders and men of God, there are also many differences between the two.
In terms of leadership, Abraham was a noble leader. Although he grew up in a camp where the notion of one God was not accepted, he eventually manages to become the leader of a tribe and make the people believe in his faith. He leads them around endlessly from Ur to Canaan, to Egypt, then back to Canaan. His tribe followed him around without much questions. They just followed his leadership. Moses was also a great leader. When he led the Hebrews out of Egypt to the Red Sea, some people questioned Moses saying, "It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert" (Exodus14:12). Moses being a calm leader replied, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still" (Exodus 14:13-14). In the mist of his people doubting him and the Egyptians on the chase, Moses reassures his people to put their faith in God. This shows Moses courageous leadership in a time of eminent danger. After they cross the Red Sea, with the help of the Lord parting it, the Red Sea closes on the Egyptians and Moses and his people are safe. After all this, Moses and his people encounter many struggles such as thirst, hunger, attacks from enemies, however Moses always manages somehow to renew the faith of his people and lead them to the promise land. Just like Abraham, Moses was a worthy leader. They both managed to keep the faith of their people in God and they lead the people to the places they were destined to

Others lead because they posses great minds and there are those who stumble into leadership because of the times they live in for example; the case of Jim Jones and the peoples Temple. Jones attracted many not because he was a great leader, but rather he approached people at a time in America that many needed a leader they could trust and someone to speak for their values. According to Robert C. Solomon leaders and followers each get and give trust to each other. Solomon mentioned that “…charisma is dangerous in the wrong leaders, but rather that it is a distorted perspective on leadership” (Ciulla, 2003, p.206). Also, according to Solomon the emotional core of leadership is trust. There is a difference between obligation and trust. In the case of Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple followers joined the church trusting, but it led to an obligation. (Ciulla, 2003).…

5000 years ago, as people discovered or invented more and more tools, agriculture replaced hunting and gathering became the main path food comes from. Because of the higher productivity agriculture has and agriculture’s need of settlement, people settled down from then on and cities came into being at that time, which happened at Mesopotamia and Ancient Egypt at first. As the population grew up in these cities, people met with the need of better organizing. As a result, leaders were needed for the first time. What made leaders different from others? Firstly, God strengthened His relationship with the Hebrews through liberation. God specifically chose Moses to lead His people out of Egypt and into the promise land. Through God freeing the Chosen people through Moses, the people have a stronger faith in God, which started a stronger relationship. Furthermore, God made the relationship with His Chosen people by giving Moses a revelation. God revealed His Holy Name to Moses at Mount Sinai, in which the Name is so sacred that the Holy Bible only gives four consonants, YHWH, which means, “I am who I am.…

Hebrew religion consisted of a single omnipotent god, Yahweh, while the Mesopotamians and Egyptians had multiple gods who each controlled their own section in nature. This means that the Hebrews only had to follow orders from one god, whereas Mesopotamians and Egyptians had to work hard to keep all of the gods happy. If what one god’s orders conflicted with another god’s orders, the people were forced to take sides, and unity would break. This could cause disputes amongst the two sides, and war could potentially break out. Alongside monotheism, the covenant also plays a major role in the structure of Hebrew religion. It is a pact that Abraham made with Yahweh, which both Yahweh and the Hebrew people had to follow. In exchange for land, a great nation, and guidance, the people had to worship Yahweh as their only god. This covenant keeps the Hebrews united, all following one god and one message, instead of listening to a whole pantheon of gods, all with different…

One ideal attribute for a leader that seemed necessary in the two stories was courage or bravery. In the story "Epic of Gilgamesh," Gilgamesh didn't really seem like a great leader to me or was really leading anyone. He was always doing his own thing on a adventure. But he did seem brave to me he never feared anything in the story, not even when he killed the guardian. Now a days being a leader means much more then just bravery. There's being kind, thoughtful, not being selfish and much more. Many traits Gilgamesh did not possess instead of people relying on him they feared him. In the other story "Enuma Elish," Marduk became leader or king of the gods by helping the gods by being brave by proving himself leader and over coming the challenge.…
