In the story it was also separated between the hunted and the hunter, except it was a decision between life or death. The hunter in the story was this guy named Zaroff. …show more content…
Zaroff is a person whom elevens that the seeker people of the world are basically toys for the stronger ones. " Life is for the strong, to be lived by the strong, and, if need be, taken by the strong." Pg. 226. This is one of the quotes said by Zaroff, proving his believes. He is a very skilled hunter who doesn't take no for an answer. Zaroff is the type of person that doesn't get intimidated very easy. In the story he had encountered Rainsford. Rainsford is another hunter, who had fallen of his boat and washed upon the shore of Zaroff's island. As it was said, Zaroff is a very skilled hunter. But, he encounters a predicament. Hunting began to bore him, so he needed a new animal. Rainsford decides to ask what this new animal could possible be. Zaroff's answer was the only animal the can reason. It was at that moment that Rainsford had realized that the only thing that could reason was a human being.
Next thing that we find out in the story is that because of Rainsford not agreeing with Zaroff's idea of humans being the hunted, he soon becomes the hunted. Rainsford is also a very skilled hunter, but because of how much Zaroff's lives for the sport of hunting, he would show no mercy and do whatever it will take. Zaroof was nice enough to give him a choice to be hunted, or be turned into Ivan's custody. Ivan is one of Zaroff's "soldiers". " If he does not wish to hunt, I turn him over to Ivan." Pg 226. This outs Rainsford into a very tough decision. Either be tortured for life, death, or loving if he survives Zaroff's hunt against him. Rainsford quickly makes the decision to try and survive Zaroff's extreme hunting game. Rainsford knew that he had to beat Zaroff at his own game in order to win and survive. It wasn't a very big island, so the odds were against Rainsford, because that would make it easier for Zaroff to find him. It was clearly an uphill battle for Rainsford because all he was given was a knife and some hunting clothes. Zaroff however was able to be in control with the lowest caliber gun, and he had his vicious pack of hunting dogs. He would only use his hunting dogs if he was desperate for the victory. But Zaroff is very confident that he will over power Rainsford with his amazing hunting skills. But what he really doesn't know is that Rainsford is very determined to succeed in the most dangerous game.
Finally, does the the world really side between the hunters and the hunted.
This is used slot in really life? Sometimes we don't even know it is happening. It could be happening with us, to our friends, or even the most random people in the entire world. "No math at all for a hunter with his wits about him" pg 223. This is just like the saying survival of the fittest. When there is a pack of wolves. The most in shape wolf there is, the more likely he is going to survive the longest out of any of the other wolves. This makes it way to the story very well. Whomever is the best out of Rainsford and Zaroff, will win. Because of this happening so much I our daily life, more of the victims of survival of the fittest are begging to adapt. Rainsford is the one who needs to adapt, cubes cause Zaroff is the alpha for many reasons. One reason is be axis he actually has a gun, which means he can make an attack from a distance, where Rainsford connote because all he has is a little knife. The second reason is, this is Zaroff's territory, meaning he knows his way around the island, but rainsford does not because he has only been there a day,and was outside for about half of that before he met Zaroff. Now it is all up to Rainsford to survive by adapting. He needs to be able to get all he needs for him to survive. Luckily he was a very skilled hunter as well. Rainsford really needs to dig deep if he wants to
survive.
I would clearly agree with the fact that the world is separated between the hunters and the hunted. Rainsford in Zaroff's eyes is the hunted and he is the hunter, but because of his doubtfulness, he is overwhelmed by Rainsford's hunting skills. Rainsford had learned to adapt when he was the weak one of the pack. He learned that he needed to be the alpha to be able to survive in the world he lives in. Due to his adaptation he was the alpha between the two of them. He was now the strong, and Zaroff was the week. Clearly in order for him to survive, he had to do whatever it takes. No matter what, he had to get into control and take matters into his own hands. Rainsford clearly had a lot of adapting to do, but it was totally worth it in his eyes and ours. That is why he survived the most dangerous game.
