couple because Demetrius is tricked with love potion. Puck is ordered to put a love potion on demetrius and is contemplating what will happen later. When puck is thinking what will happen he says,
Oberon. Stand aside: the noise they make
Will cause Demetrius to awake.
Puck. Then will two at once woo one; 1155
That must needs be sport alone;
And those things do best please me
That befal preposterously. (Shakespeare 3.2. 1154-1158)
This shows how Oberon is telling Puck to put love potion on Demetrius’ eyes and for him to not wake him from sleep. It also shows puck thinking about how lysander and Demetrius will compete for the same girl which shows that he has put the potion on Demetrius. This quote supports the thesis because since Demetrius was bewitched into love with Helena. That proves the only way he will stop loving Helena is if the love potion is removed and under the circumstances that only one fairy can do that it is unlikely that he will end the relationship with Helena.
Another example to show how Demetrius and Helena will be the most successful couple is the fact that Helena loves Demetrius so much that she will do whatever it takes to be with him. Helena is pursuing Demetrius through the forests trying to persuade him to love her. When she catches up to him she says,
And even for that do I love you the more.
I am your spaniel; and, Demetrius,
The more you beat me, I will fawn on you:
Use me but as your spaniel, spurn me, strike
me,
Neglect me, lose me; only give me leave,
Unworthy as I am, to follow you.
What worser place can I beg in your love,—
And yet a place of high respect with me,—
Than to be used as you use your dog? (Shakespeare 2.1. 577-586)
This quote says that she wants to be with him so bad that she would put up being treated like a dog by him. When she says “Neglect me, lose me; only give me leave,” this shows how she loves him so much she could be neglected but she would be happy to be with him. Since she is so devoted to Demetrius she will most likely always be with him in a relationship. This essay proves that Demetrius and Helena will be the most successful couple in the play Midsummers Night’s Dream. This essay proves that because of the fact that bewitched into falling in love with Helena and Helena loves him so much she would put up with being neglected just to be with him. This whole topic is important to consider because it shows the power of love and dedication. The reason this is so relevant is the fact that we base relationships on compatibility but in some plays it is based off more happenings.
