Aggravated Sodomy Summary

Reference(s): 1) Ignorance is no Defense pp. 30-31 2) Holy Bible: Genesis 18-19

The definition of sodomy defined by google.com is intercourse via anal or oral, committed by a man or woman. My definition of it is sexual activity that is not considered the natural course of sexual contact, and/or sexual intercourse. Aggravated sodomy is a crime in any state, but in Georgia this crime, even as a minor can get you 25 years in prison without parole as the minimum, and can be sentenced to a maximum of life in prison. In Genesis 18-19, it clearly states that in the city of Sodom and Gomorrah there was lots of crimes going, not only was there homosexuality

These crimes could get you 25 to life, maybe even more, in the present day, but back then everyone would have extraordinarily long sentences. God decided to destroy this city, but Abraham wanted God to spare the city if he could find at least 10 righteous men in the city. Lot was in this city along with his wife, daughters, and sons-in-law. In Genesis 19:1-12, it states that Lot housed two angels that night, and after Lot baked bread for them to eat, some wicked men (they would be known as homosexuals, today) came to Lot’s door and said, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them to us, for we may know them.” Lot tried to persuade them in taking one of his daughters instead, but men didn’t accept, instead they replied, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” This was just one example of some of the wicked things that were going on in Sodom, Lot was pulled into his house at this time and the angels said, “Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city–take them out of this place! For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the

We will first be starting with the historical view which has much to do with what the bible teaches on homosexuality. When we look back at ancient Greece where homosexuality was really not that big of a deal, older men would have relationships with adolescent males’ right at the time when they grew their first beards (online text pg. 28). Then we can go to Rome where there were men that were very feminine and walked around certain parts of town looking for men to bed. In Florence which was a very Christian city had many sodomites (this is a Jewish and Christian word that signifies the connection between sodomy and the city of Sodom in the Bible which supposedly God destroyed (Genesis 19). I remember watching a movie called “Caligula”. This movie depicted how free the Romans were with sexual favors and bedding with those of same sex was an all-time occurrence especially male with male (online textpg.287). Sodomy was such a natural thing but it bothered the governors at the time so they created a group called “The Office of the Night in 1437 to enable its citizens to be able to accuse others anonymously of sodomy (Human Sexuality pg. 287). Once the Roman Empire ceased to exist, throughout Western Europe Christianity spread and its beliefs were made part of secular laws.…

I understand where the majority is coming from bashing on how immoral homosexual sodomy is. I do not think it’s worse than rape since the homosexual activity was consensual whereas rape is not. I think the crux of the issue was the fact that the case was over the homosexual sodomy. If it was over heterosexual sexual conduct, the case would have never made it to the supreme court. Like how Justice Blackmun said the majority opinion refused to recognize that any individual has the right to control the nature of an intimate relationship with others. Be it a homosexual or heterosexual relationship an individual should have the fundamental right to choose the nature of an intimate relationship. Now we are more accepting of a homosexual relationship as a society since it’s more prevalent nowadays, I think we shouldn’t be critical towards the gays because it’s their choice to choose their sexual orientation. If they are gay a one point in life does not mean they will stay that way forever and the same goes for people with other orientations. The good news is this case is reversed in 2003 with the Lawrence v. Texas…

If your doing caused another member of society some kind of hardship, it was punishable. “If a man has opened the waters, and the plants of the field of his neighbor the waters have carried away, he shall pay ten gur of corn per gan.”(Hammurabi, and C. H. W. Johns) Other punishable acts were that of performing care on others. “If the doctor has treated a gentleman for a severe would with a lancet of bronze and has caused the gentleman to die, or has opened an abscess of the eye for a gentleman with the bronze lancet and has caused the loss of the gentleman’s eye, one shall cut off his hands.” (Hammurabi, and C. In the bible God created man and woman for a purpose. This purpose was to be able to reproduce the population and for one man to be in love and with one woman. I do not believe that in a homosexuality house hold that a child would be raised properly and normally like most children are able to be raised. I feel putting children in that environment is suggesting that homosexuality is okay and it truly isn’t when in terms of the bible. This sin was so important to God that he directly approached the subject in the bible saying it is a sin and that a man should be with a woman and a woman should be with a man. Being a huge supporter of the Christian faith because I am apart of that faith, I believe that being a homosexual is dishonorable and truly upsets God.…

Punishment is fundamental to man’s understanding of morals and ethics. Without repercussions one could not distinguish between virtue and sin. The concept of punishment dates back to the earliest civilizations as it is demonstrated in historical literature. The Bible establishes some of man’s first known perceptions of right and wrong. In this sacred story, God often punishes the morally incorrect actions of his people. Some of the earliest human notions of punishment are demonstrated in the stories of “Noah and the Flood” and “Cain Murders Abel.” The Bible uses powerful imagery to depict an underlying idea that the lowest punishments are reserved for people of violence and murder.…

    Adultery In Biblical Times

Normally in society today adultery, even though it is a crime in most states it is not one that people who commit it usually spend time in jail for, if it were our jails would be more overcrowded than they are now. In Biblical times it was crime that usually ended in punishment. For example the story of David and Bathsheba, even though Bathsheba was married she had sex with David and had gotten pregnant, David in turn had her husband put into a position during fighting that would have him killed, and after a while David and Bathsheba were married and they had a son and named him Solomon. In today’s society “adultery is an all-to-common behavior” (Jones, 2006, p. 103), as “society is more tolerant of adultery today than it was in David’s lifetime”…

11.Morality is something that one cannot take for granted. We grow up in a culture with certain mass assumptions, certain given taboos, and we accept them. But when one begins to question, when one learns that a certain taboo (such as homosexuality) is in fact a sound practice, it becomes necessary to examine more and more assumptions until you may evaluate a practice on its own grounds, not just the grounds that society has assigned to it.…

At this point, I must pause to address the common teaching in today’s society regarding the story of Sodom and Gomorrah primarily used to validate the “sin” of homosexuality. In fact, I cannot recall ever being taught from that stance; it was briefly mentioned that men slept with men or same sex relationships. However, as stated above, the story of Sodom and Gomorrah was used to point out the Lord used fire to destroy the city for committing a vast number of sins.…

But the punishment is extraordinarily lenient in comparison to the Biblical and legal punishments that were available at the time. A more charitable reading of the Bible would come later in reflections on the New Testament interpretation of adultery law, namely, that the public need not step in to punish a crime when we ourselves have our own sins to be judged. Each person suffers enough already for his or her own sins. More so in our society, it is so taboo, when you consider the historical context of marriage, isn’t being shocked by adultery a bit of an overreaction? Of course, no one can deny that when you lie and do something behind another person’s back, you are doing something wrong. You’re breaking an agreement, and that lacks…
