Movie Analysis: I Am Virus
I am legend, written by Richard Matheson, in my opinion is the best dystopian movie ever. To break it down, Dr. Robert Neville is abandoned in New York city while the whole city is being evacuated. A virus is spreading throughout the city. In order to evacuate you can’t have the virus, but if you do, you will be forced to remain in the city and the rest could leave. Dr. Robert decided to stay, but he ordered to evacuate his wife and daughter. He was left with they’re dog. During the morning, he would take his car and dog, and look for survivors and supplies. At sunset, he returns home and locks up, because the zombies come out at night. Throughout his time in the city, he has found no survivors, and has done experiments on zombie rats. He also tries to find a way …show more content…
It seems to pop up a couple of times throughout the movie when he’s in different situations. I’m not saying it’s weird, but you know that he doesn’t have anyone to talk to besides his dog. Well, he fixed that problem, kind of. He placed mannequins around the stores that he gets food, and books from. He talks to them as if they are alive, and they’re his friends. It’s like he has developed feelings for them due to how long he’s been in the city. He also has mental breakdowns. In one scene, his dog gets bit by a zombie dog, and when they returned home, sam, his dog went savage, and tried to bite him. Therefore, he was forced to choke out his own dog, of which he had since she was a puppy. This scene was hands down the sad part of the movie. After, he had a breakdown and he lost it. He went out at night when all the zombies were around and for revenge, he started to run them over. It wasn’t like him to go out at night, but that dog truly meant something to him. He was on the edge of dying, but a miracle happened, a survivor came through. This is the part Dr. Robert realizes he’s not the only one. He also has a challenge with the lack of time and

Everyone he has ever loved either can not return the sentiment or dies and leaves him alone in the world yet again. When Robert is on the boat to Europe, he is ordered to shoot a horse injured during a storm at sea. Robert is deeply conflicted, as an animal and nature lover, destroying something he cared for and attended to left him deeply torn. Roberts innocence is shown when he questions, "what ever it [is] you kill in wars," buy having to redder to "Chums" and an image of "a cowboy shooting a horse behind the ear" when it came time to kill the injured animal. Having to shoot the horse left him not only emotionally damaged, but physically as well, Robert injured his legs and had to be moved to the sick bay along with his good friend Harris. Robert faces innocence, which was a huge factor that affected him where his sister, Rowena Ross was born with a deadly disease called hydrocephalus, in which fluids accumulates in the brain, enlarging the head and potentially causing brain damage especially to younger children. This results in Rowena passing way when she falls out of her wheelchair, where Robert was told to watch her, but was instead, “making love to his pillow” (Findley 15). This results in Robert wanting to enlist to war to escape from the pain and guilt because he was the sole reason of the death of his sister and he shouldn’t have left her sight. It is clear that Robert is hiding his feelings and wants to keep his private emotions to himself away from others around him.…

Though it is unclear how he got infected, the first reported zombie was a child in a small child in China. The virus then spreads, despite the cover-up the Chinese government tries to pull off, through human trafficking and refugees. Soon after, the world becomes aware of this and a fake cure gets put out, which only speeds up the spreading and causes the period of time, later referred to as the "Great Panic", to start, during which the world almost destroyed each other while trying to stop the disease. More and more events occur, that eventually lead to when the book is set, during the recovery. The world works together to kill the millions of zombies that are still around, even ten years after the end of the war.…
