• The disease in the movie is most like rabies as they are both transmitted through a bite of an infected host and cause similar symptoms. However, their incubation periods range widely. An incubation period is how long it takes for symptoms to appear after being bitten. Rabies’s incubation period can range from weeks to months (“Rabies,” 2017). In the movie, the virus’s incubation period is twelve seconds. Additionally, rabies impairs the host’s immune responses, resulting in psychological deficits. This is another similarity between rabies and the viral disease seen in the movie (Singh, R., K.P., Cherian, S., Saminathan, M., Kapoor, S., Manjunatha, G. B., Dhama, K., 2017).
• When someone acquires a disease or illness, they normally experience several different stages. As discussed in class, the five stages of microbial diseases are incubation, prodromal, illness, decline, and convalescence. The stages occur over a period much longer than twelve seconds. When humans acquire a disease, they experience the five stages. Once the …show more content…
A higher virulence would constitute for a lower infectious dose, and a lower virulence would constitute for a higher infectious dose (Hu, Kane, Heymann, 1991). Depending on the amount of blood in Gerry’s mouth and the infectious dose and virulence of the disease, it is possible the contaminated blood was not enough to infect to Gerry. Furthermore, a person is more likely to contract a disease when the skin is ruptured upon contact, such as from a bite or needle injection. (National Health Service, 2015). Gerry wasn’t bit in the movie. The blood from the infected person was splattered into his
