After analysing both extracts of Macbeth and Pulp fiction I can distinguish the predominant use of femininity and the roles the females play are very similar yet different. In Shakespeare’s Macbeth it’s quite intriguing to see the various roles ‘Lady Macbeth’ plays and how the concept of femininity is rectified both negatively and positively throughout the play. However the fact that the play is set in Jacobean times contradicts the role of Lady Macbeth because back in those days females were seen as weak, emotional and irrelevant beings. However Lady Macbeth plays a powerful and individual role in Shakespeare’s famous play, she also shows a manipulative side of women in general and how they can play the mastermind of given scenarios just as good as the males. Pulp fiction has strong references to the era of Rock n Roll, therefore the mind-set, lifestyle and language differs heavily. In Pulp fiction my main focus is upon the drug dealer’s Wife who goes by the name of Mia.
Lady Macbeth is fixed on gaining power to an extent where she is willing to eradicate the concept of gender roles . During those times women were expected to act in a certain manner in comparison to today’s modern society. She has dominance over Macbeth and dictates his actions; Lady Macbeth pushes her husband towards killing king Duncan and portrays power in this disruption of gender “Pour my spirits in thine ear and chastise with the valour of my tongue” Lady Macbeth uses the word valour which implies the power of her Language, as well as her masculinity. She shows strong masculine characteristics and specifies her desire to lose her feminine qualities in order to
