Mrs Forristall Analysis
The first time that I read a book that I truly enjoyed was given to me by my 6th grade reading and writing teacher Mrs. Forristall. Before I had Mrs. Forristall as a teacher, I dreaded going to an english class because I never understood what the point of it all was. My question was always “What is the point of reading if I don’t comprehend it and I don’t like it? My 6th grade teacher changed my perspective on it all. I now love reading books, I love the way that I connect to characters or the author, and I love the way I get into the storyline as a reader, all thanks to Mrs. Forristall. Mrs. Forristall did not like many students, but she always made sure you met the requirements of reading and writing you needed to and always wanted you to enjoy what you were reading. When she saw something special in you though, she surely showed it. I was one of Mrs. Forristall favorite students. Even though I never had an …show more content…
She had me read Shiver, Divergent, Paper towns, If I stay, the fault in our stars, and many others. She taught me that not all reading has to be so simplistic and that reading a book can not only make you feel more than you know, but open you up to love of reading. Throughout my years, even in high school, I always had a book to read, whether it was from Mrs. Forristall or not (which usually it was). She still finds a way to give me an amazing book that she loved, or thinks I would love, even though I’m a junior in high school. Altogether, my love for reading would not exist if it wasn’t for Mrs. Forristall. Her and I enjoyed reading the same types of books and she always knew what type of read I needed next. She liked intense, mesmerizing books and I can’t say I didn’t love every single book she’s ever given me. I read them with celerity and was lucky enough to have a teacher that not only cared for my education, but for my personal

I guess I shouldn’t say Betsy Ross made me love to read; I should say Betsy Ross opened my eyes to a whole new world. When I was in the third grade, we were assigned a book report on any biography of our choosing. “Great!” I thought. “Now I have to read some boring book!” I was not thrilled with this assignment, but I was a good student and usually did what I was told.…

I read it whenever I got the chance. Day and night. The story had come alive and dragged me into it. When I read, I experienced a feeling I had never felt. Everytime I read a chapter from the book, it drawed me in more. I traveled into the book and soon it became a part of me. One day it was Chapter 13 and the next it was Chapter 21. There was no stopping me as I read and read and read. I began to talk to my friends about it and they recommended other books for me to read. I finished the first book, then I read the second, “Catching Fire,” and lastly I read “Mockingjay”. This was the best book series I had ever read in all of my eleven years of being on earth. My brain began to beg me for more reading material as time grew on. Reading began to teach me new things that I hadn’t known before. As my thirst for reading grew, I felt like I was becoming smarter as well. How could a book change so much of a person in so little…

A lot of books I can remember reading made my childhood so great. Growing up as a child, going to the library was one of my most favorite hobbies to do. My mother would always take me there and she would read to me anything from Junie B. Jones to Arthur books, Dr. Seuss, Charlottes’ Web. Dr. Seuss was one of my most favorites. Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham will always be a childhood favorite. At the library, my mother would read word by word very slowly to make sure I’d understand what she was reading. Age 3-5, I would take part in a summer program at the library that involves reading. The volunteers who were…

Growing up reading and writing has always been a part of my life; you could always catch my mom sitting in her chair with a book by her favorite author in her hand. I’ll always remember the day that she read a play to me, she was never into theatre as a kid but she read it as if she had been on Broadway. I think that is where my love for reading as well as theatre first started, just watching her so focused and completely into a book. It always amazed me and to this day it still does. I’ve also had some amazing teachers throughout my school years. Have you ever had those teachers who would do anything in the world for you? The teachers who just made you so excited to learn? I know that I have a few; they are the ones that you could never forget. From my English teachers to my theatre teachers, they have all made a difference in my life. I know that it sounds crazy that theatre ties in with all of this, but it does in so many ways.…

I loved hearing her voice when she read to me. She would change her voice for each character in the story. Hearing different voices sent my imagination soaring. Sometimes I would close my eyes and visualize the characters and setting. Although I do not remember many specific details about these reading sessions, I am certain that the pictures and adventures of the make believe characters were the reason the books captivated me.…

The first books I ever started reading were Winnie the Pooh and Dr Suess books. When I was young my parents were really good about getting me started with reading different books and for a long time I loved reading, as long as it was books I got to choose and enjoyed reading myself. Once I got further along in school and they started mandating what books we had to read I got to the point where I didn’t find reading enjoyable any longer. I didn’t like most of the books my teachers were picking for us to read so I felt like I had to force myself to read them and it caused me to even stop reading books outside of school…

They never asked me what do I want to read about or what I want to learn about until my 7th grade year when we had to read a book, take a test on it, and then write a book report on it. When I was listening to my teacher describe the assignment I was waiting for the circumstances. Then she said anything we want to read and do a book report on. I was dumbfounded when I went to the library because I had no idea on where to start. So I just started going to random areas of the library and seeing anything that just popped out at me and begged me to read it. Finally one did, and to this day still my favorite book I have ever read, “Iron Marshall” by Louis L’Amour. I fell in love with this book. I read it every night before I went to sleep and every day during school when I had down time during class. What drew me in was that there was action in every chapter and the story was in such good detail. I now know the saying that the book is better than the movie. And it is all because of “Iron Marshall”. After reading that book I had to see what else Louis L’Amour had because of how much I fell in love with the first one. Oh he did and to my surprise I can’t pick a favorite one! I read every single book he had in the library by the end of my sophomore year in high…

Books are precious pieces that improve one’s knowledge and help define one’s personality by relating themselves to characters within the text. As Vladimir Nabokov said in Good Readers and Good Writers “The reader should identify himself or herself with the hero or heroine.”(Nabokov, 973) I always believed that by reading a book you become one with yourself by somehow feeling all the problems of the characters and become completely absorbed in their world, therefore feeling like you have a purpose as you read.…

It all started when I would spend weekends with my grandparents in Fargo, before I would go to bed, grandma Lola would read to me in my room. One very specific book I can remember her reading to me is called Love Lola, and Lola would read it to me over and over again, but only because I would beg her to. As I became older she would give me books to read, and then one day she finally took me to her public library. Grandma Lu picked out a few books she thought I would be interested in, one being My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult. Thanks to grandma Lu, Jodi is now one of my favorite authors, and I love to read willingly.…

I thought it was full of magic and mysteries. Sometimes I would sit in there all of lunch and recess, and read Harry Potter. My friends thought it was strange, but I loved it, so no one ever questioned me. Reading was my escape from all the ridiculous elementary school drama. I felt, and still do feel a surge of energy rush through my brain when I read. My teachers even let me read in class when I had finished my work. Mrs. Mandola, my third grade teacher, made a huge impact on my life. She taught me about the world and the people in it. If it wasn’t for Mrs. Mandola, I wouldn’t be the outgoing person I am today.
