Guest Services Manager

San Juan, Puerto Rico, 00785
Dear Mr. Puarez:
I am a frequent traveler but this is the first time I have stayed in your San Juan hotel. I chose your hotel based on your reputation for value and excellent service. Yet an experience at your hotel has made me think that your reputation has been inaccurately inflated.
I stayed in your San Juan, Puerto Rico hotel (room 756) from Monday, September 1 through Thursday, September 4, 2012. Throughout my stay my room was consistently dirty, and the bathroom fixtures were rusty. Additionally, I had to request fresh towels each evening of my stay. To make matters worse, the casino was extremely loud and the music did not stop until 3 A.M. I complained to the Front Desk Manager, Raul Rodriguez, and requested another room but was told there were no other rooms available. No one from the hotel addressed my concerns and I was told repeatedly that housekeeping had been alerted to my complaints. Despite my repeated complaints, my room was never properly cleaned and was never furnished with fresh towels. Because of the casino noise, I was unable to sleep comfortably for two nights. Hence, my time spent in Puerto Rico was nerve-wracking.
The cost of a room with a king sized bed and an ocean view, at the time of my booking, was $190 per night and I stayed for 3 nights. In addition, a resort charge of 20% was added to my bill. As this accommodation was prepaid through expedia.com, I was told that I could not request a refund at the hotel.
Considering that I made several complaints that were documented and showed patience in waiting for the situations to be improved, I am writing to request that I be refunded the cost of my accommodation. The customer service for this branch needs to be improved. The Front Desk Manager should be more sensitive to the needs of your guests.

Charlie Jones, a fireman for Boulder County, Colorado, saw an ad for the vacation of his dreams in the local, “Boulder County Gazette.” The ad read, “Seven days at the wonderful luxury Windell resort, ‘Cabo Mar,’ $1200 per person, all inclusive.” The ad featured a picture of the front of the hotel with a person receiving a massage by the pool superimposed over the hotel façade. The ad went on to say how the hotel was located on the beach at Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and in a wonderful tropical setting. The ad also listed the name of a local travel agency, Jennifer’s Tours, for booking purposes. In miniscule print at the bottom of the ad, blending with the pattern of the iron railing, the ad went on to make a short disclaimer to the effect that the amenities featured were not necessarily those provided. Jones knew Jennifer Hooley, the owner of the agency. Anxious for some time off in a warm climate, Jones decided to Google the hotel name to verify that it was indeed a Windell hotel as he knew Windell to be a reputable company. From Google, Jones was able to confirm that the, ‘Cabo Mar,’ was owned by Windell; he also noticed that the same picture appeared on this website as he had first seen in the newspaper. The site also showed pictures of what seemed to be spacious, well-appointed rooms with queen sized beds. Excited by what he saw, Jones called Jennifer’s Tours and booked the special he saw in the newspaper ad.…

The Battle of Passchendaele encapsulates the very essence of World War One perfectly, being a vivid picture of the absolute chaos that had occurred. The Canadian Corps, a fighting formation 100,000 strong was ordered to the Passchendaele front in October of 1917. It was seen as an impossible battle to the commander of the Canadian Corps, it was likely that the fight, even if won, wouldn’t be worth the expenses. The commander-in-chief of the British army was desperate for a symbolic victory, so the military had no say in whether they fought or not. The British had aimed to drive the Germans away from Passchendaele ridge.…

The case revolves around the Regal Carnation Hotel, located in Guam. Partly narrated by Steve McKenzie, he described his experience with the Regal Carnation Hotel. We weren’t even greeted properly, we had ask to sit in the bar area, and the hostess told us to go ahead and didn’t even take us there just pointed to where it was. I felt she was snotty and was put out by having to deal with customers. Her attitude was horrible. (pg38) My boyfriend and I are sports fans, that’s why we decided to sit in the bar area so we could watch ESPN. There weren’t that many tables in the bar about 6 total, two had dirty dishes on them and two needed washed, one was occupied so we took the only available and clean table. I didn’t understand it really, they weren’t real busy, and everyone seemed to be doing nothing for towards what customers want.(pg38) The one other table that was occupied was people who were also disturbed by the lack of professionalism that was being displayed. One guy even commented on it, I in return said “If I was the boss a lot of people would be losing their jobs tonight”. Their service delivery systems seemed to be failing tonight. (pg38)…

    | The Satir Change Model is derived from family psychology more than 30 years ago. The model was later adapted for understanding organizations and larger systems (Smith, 2010). Satir Chaos Model focuses not just on systems and technology but also on individual people. This multi-staged model describes how a human system might experience, react to, and then adjust to change over time (Smith, 2010). The components of this Model of change consist of six stages: the first stage: old status quo is the current norm, the second stage: foreign element is something happens that interrupts the familiarity of the status quo, the third stage: chaos is the reaction to a foreign element that throws you into chaos, the fourth stage: transforming ideas gives you a new understanding of what to do, you begin to see a way out of the chaos, the fifth stage: practice and integration: you start to try your new idea or new behavior. The last stage new status quo: the new norm. According to Emery, (2012) “it is the nature of individuals to resist change and cling to familiar ways of doing things”. The Old Status Quo the group is at a familiar place. The performance pattern is consistent. Stable relationships give members a sense of belonging and identity. Members know what to expect, how to react, and how to behavior (Smith, 2012).Foreign Elements in this sage something happens that shatters the familiarity of the old status quo. A significant event that is internal or external seeking change that threatens the stability of familiar powers. Chaos the foreign elements throw you into chaos. In this stage, you are suddenly in unfamiliar waters where your things are unpredictable, and your usual pattern behaviors do not…

Alexander the Great said, “I am indebted to my father for living, but to my teacher for living well” (www.brainyquote.com). He was a man who knew something about both living well and about teachers. No man has ever risen to a place of greater prominence in such a brief span. Furthermore, very few could boast of having a better teacher than Aristotle. He has been dead for well above two thousand years, yet there is not an undergraduate student, perhaps in the western world today, who has not studied Aristotle to some degree. This is the quality teacher the author of this quote had. He had it right, in my opinion. This is the ultimate goal of teaching and teachers to enable the student to live well.…
