Ms Chavez Weakness

3) Ms. Chavez’s weakness in presenting material is that she lacks enthusiasm. Her students do not like her science class because it is boring. She just stands in front of the class and lectures about a topic every day. There is no fun experiments or involvement of the students. In a 7th grade science class, students can learn a lot while the class is also fun. There are many demonstrations, experiments, and other activities that could spark interest in her students. It is known that enthusiasm doesn’t necessarily mean that students will perform better on tests, but it will actually get them involved and interested in the subject matter. If they are more interested the work may not seem so difficult to understand. Her weakness in her choice
of teaching approaches is that there really is not much to the class. Every day the students come in sit through a 30 minute lecture, ask questions at the end, get homework assigned, and then class is dismissed. The students are not interested in the class because they get bored quickly with this approach. Students zone out and miss a lot of the information being given so they are more likely to not understand it. I feel that if she changed up her class and added in demonstrations or experiments the students can participate in, it would make it less difficult. A few topics in science just have to be explained because they cannot be demonstrated; however, some of the topics must be demonstrated in order to be understood. Some will do well with her current approach to lecturing because they are audio learners, but others will not be successful because they are visual learners. They would have to see an experiment happen in order for them to remember and understand the concepts.
