Finally, she engages Benedick himself, who can give back as good as he gets.Benedick too is mentioned before he appears, but only by Beatrice, who is clearly bitter toward him, apparently as the result of previous experience with him. Of all the characters from Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing”, Beatrice is perhaps the most interesting. As a brilliant and outspoken, her character is quite the opposite of her cousin, Hero. One must ask, “In what way is Beatrice different from other women during Shakespeare's era?” And furthermore, “for what purpose did the author write her as the firm character she plays as?” Beatrice’s character cannot be adequately pegged down by the interpretation of the reader, as she is both seemingly realistically presented and yet fictionally portrayed by the author.…

Although the dialogue in the movie is the same as the original play, the settings and emotional intent are better represented in the film. So, the overall meaning of the story isn’t diminished but preserved and enhanced. In Summary, the movie is a good representation of the original play that William Shakespeare would be proud of.…

Much Ado About Nothing has many tropes that are specific to the romantic comedy. The first is “Belligerent Sexual Tension” (Romantic Comedy), which means that the characters have obvious attraction between them despite the fact that they fight like cats and dogs. This goes into the other trope for their relationship titled Slap, Slap, Kiss (Romantic Comedy). While they don’t physically attack each other, they verbally joust at any point when they’re together. Leonato early on makes note of this in 1.1, “There is a kind of merry war betwixt Signor Benedick and her. They never meet but there’s a skirmish of wit between them.” (1.1.49-51) “Slap, Slap, Kiss” is taken to an almost literal extreme in Taming of the Shrew, and is found in the modern…

The duping of Claudio and Don Pedro results in Hero’s disgrace, while the ruse of her death prepares the way for her redemption and reconciliation with Claudio. When Claudio has shamed and rejected Hero, Leonato and his household “publish” that Hero has died in order to punish Claudio for his mistake. When Claudio returns, penitent, to accept the hand of Leonato’s “niece” (actually Hero), a group of masked women enters and Claudio must wed blindly. The masking of Hero and the other women reveals that the social institution of marriage has little to do with love. When Claudio flounders and asks, “Which is the lady I must seize upon?” he is ready and willing to commit the rest of his life to one of a group of unknowns (Act 5 Scene 4 Line 53). His willingness stems not only from his guilt about slandering an innocent woman but also from the fact that he may care more about rising in Leonato’s favour than in marrying for love.…

Kenneth Branaghs 1993 Much ado about nothing shows how the setting of a film can contribute to the way the film plays out. The low key light mid-shot helps show us the emotions on both Don Jon and Conrad’s face showing the power Don Jon has over Conrad, the chiaroscuro lighting portrays the evil within Don Jon.…

For my Collaborate LLC, the theme is civic engagement which is defined as actions designed to identify and address issues of public concern. In both my Sociology course and Shakespeare course we examined multiple issues that should be of public concern. In my Shakespeare course, we read multiple Shakespeare plays which depicted a variety of injustices and inequalities people were faced with hundreds of years ago, and we would continue to discuss how those same injustices and inequalities could be seen now. One such example of this relates to the injustices women faced and still face in society. In Shakespeare’s play “Much Ado About Nothing” the character Hero is portrayed as the perfect Renaissance woman: silent, chaste, and obedient.…

For Shakespeare love can mean a lot of different things and be shown in many different ways. Personally, Shakespeare's love-life was rather interesting, as he married a much older woman who was already with child (presuming it was already his) and then there is of course, the mysterious Dark Lady of all of his sonnets. Shakespeare has always tried to influence everyone to think certain things about how is characters act in love and how they show it through their use of language. We first seen this happening in the set where Romeo when he is first talking about his love and affection towards Rosalind and her love towards him. William helps us learn his view on love throughout all of his poets and plays and showing us what it really means to be in love or to have been in love before.…
