In order to decrease crime rates by at least ten percent, I have been instructed to suggest the following options. The first option is to increase patrolling on “hot spots”. Hot spots can be defined as places in which over half of the violent crime in the city occurs (Braga, A. A., Papachristos, A. V., & Hureau, D. M. (2014). Hot spots can also be defined as where most criminal activity in the past has happened. Gangs and other criminals tend to commit crimes in these places and will continue to do so unless they are deterred.
The effects of hot spot policing are quite significant. In fact, twenty out of twenty-five tests of hot spot policing interventions have been shown to reduce overall violent crime and disorder when analyzed (Braga, A. A., Papachristos, A. V., & Hureau, D.
