Norfolk Crime Rate
Crime in Norfolk

Crime in Norfolk I chose to analyze the crime rate in Norfolk, Virginia. I’ll be moving there if my fiancé is re-stationed to the Naval base there. I was curious about how safe it is to live there, but it’s not at all. The crime rate is greater than I could have imagined and that makes me uncertain about having to live there. I believe more should be done about it, and below is what I think would make it better. In the city of Norfolk there is a 1 in 169 chance of becoming the victim of a crime. That’s compared to the 1 in 508 chance in the whole state of Virginia. There are 145 per square miles in Norfolk. From June 15, 2013 through June 30, 2013 there was an average of 60 crimes committed per day. The safest neighborhood is the Hampton Boulevard area and one of the worst is the Brambleton, Norfolk State University area. I’m truly surprised at the amount of crime in the city. I was always under the impression Norfolk was much safer due to the prominent military population. The crime rate in Norfolk is much higher than all of Virginia. The amount of murders committed were stunning, and unexpected. I feel Norfolk is in need of more officers patrolling to aid in crime deterrence. For the crime that does happen, they would need a few investigators to help solve them. I would hire two crime scene investigators to collect evidence from crime scenes. I would also make sure at least one of them could run the lab. Then I’d hire one office administrator to file the reports. Also, I’d hire four police officers to patrol crime ridden areas to help prevent criminals, and one investigator. The investigator would have an important role in catching suspects and would need to specialize in homicide also. Overall, the crime rate in Norfolk is higher than 94% of the United States. That is much higher than I expected before researching this topic. The decisions I’d make for the city is preventive, I wouldn’t wait for

The neighborhood of Park Hall would like to see a drastic change in the way the local police handle these types of incidents. Lower crime rates in our neighborhood regarding prostitution and drug solicitation is much desired as well. We would also like to see a better comradery between our residents and the local law enforcement officers. I believe that given the proper diligence and attention to this…

The two metropolitan areas are DeKalb and Fulton County; these are metro area based out of Atlanta, Georgia. These are the two major counties in Atlanta. Therefore, this were the most crime occur, wither it is reported it still unknown. For the most part, the comparison between the two is that Fulton County crime rate is much higher than DeKalb County. For example, the percentage of violent crime and property crimes has a much high rate in Fulton County between 1999- 2008 (RecordsPedia, 2009). This means during the period these crimes were reported Fulton County became the city with the most crimes that may or may not have been reported to local officials. Police officers could only do more patrolling, but they could not catch every crime that may have occurred within this county along. DeKalb County is this not out of the wind because crime is still happening in this county as well in 1999-2008, so by this being said DeKalb may not have crime rates as high as Fulton County, but there could be a possibility that they may reveres each other meaning DeKalb may have…

Nevertheless, some readers may challenge my view by insisting that the crime rate of Englewood community is worse than ever before along with a gradual increase of exotic population. However, a study has shown that personal safety is better than ever in the Englewood community instead of constantly increasing crime rate (Matt). The NBC Chicago News report that the crime rate quickly drops as young hipsters and Millennials with the higher income move into the gentrified Englewood community. Not only does the NBC disprove some reader’s claim, it strengthens my argument that it’s safer and more secure than previously Englewood community. While many may say gentrification cause higher crime rate, the perspective speaks for itself; the crime…

Based on statistics reported to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Camden was the third-most dangerous city in the United States during 2002, and has been ranked the nation 's most dangerous city in 2004 and 2005. "Most dangerous city" is based on crime statistics in six categories: murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, and auto theft. (http://www.morganquitno.com/index.htm) Despite recent positive trends, crime rates remain high. According to the County Prosecutor 's office, homicide is the leading cause of death for residents ages 15 to 24. "Much of this crime can be attributed to the open drug trade that employs approximately 2,200 Camden residents, attracts over 50 percent of its buyers from outside the city, and generates over $200 million…

Prevention is key in lowering and then ending property crime. Having a strong police presence and visibility is key in stopping property crime before it occurs. The second recommendation that I have for a strategic plan to lower and ultimately end property crime is to initiate more neighborhood watch programs in conjunction with community policing. In each of these steps, the local police would be the main individuals responsible for achieving these steps. The neighborhood watch programs and the community policing would begin in larger cities first and then continue to smaller cities. Local authorities will help to organize and educate the residents involved in the neighborhood watch programs and the community policing programs.…

The biggest problem with solving crime is police doesn’t respond to break in unless somebody is hurt or dead. Due to the high crime death rate due to gun violence police is to respond only to that. You Can call 911 all you want , but there will not be any respond by the law coming were you are.(Charles Richardson's) informative column on (Macon and Bibb County crime statistics) points out that while aggravated assaults have declined in the city and county, residential burglaries are up 6% over last year. These burglaries are associated with drugs and violence. The reality is that police cannot be everywhere all the time to protect our homes. Roadblocks and visible police presence may deter crime briefly, but unless we turn society into a police state even those measures will not suffice. Citizens must take some responsibility for their own safety. The truth is the police, despite their motto “to protect and serve,” cannot be everywhere. Let's remember that courts have ruled the police do not have a legal obligation to protect individuals; the police owe a duty to protect the community at large (Bowers v. DeVito; 1982) but not individual persons, homes, or businesses. www.haciendapub.com…
