CRIME DATA COMPARISON
The Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program is a nationwide cooperative effort of over 16,000 cities, county and state law enforcement agencies voluntarily reporting data on crime brought to their attention. This program was develop in 1929 by the International Association of Chiefs of Police provide reliable crime statistics for the nation. Each year, several statistical publications are attain and the information, which has been selected by several thousand law enforcement agencies across the United States is design and inputted into the uniform crime report database. With robberies at that number for the year, it averages out to about 36 burglaries a day throughout the whole year for Chicago and an average of 21 burglaries for
Philadelphia a day. Now in 2013 the average amount of robberies were 11,815 which were an average of 32 robberies a day where Philadelphia had 7,562 with an average of 20 robberies a day. As far as the data shows Chicago had the highest crime rate for burglaries within the year of 2012, and 2013. Though Chicago and Philadelphia were very close in range for the amount of robberies committed within the year. By looking at population Chicago has much more than
Philadelphia does which means you will have a higher crime rate when there is more of a overpopulation. From one year to the next with both Chicago and Philadelphia it shows that the crime rates did go down with Chicago having a bigger decline on robberies than Philadelphia did. My comparison was between Chicago and Philadelphia to see which one had a higher rates of robberies, and I found out that Chicago had the highest over the two years of data that I collected. Also when looking at both 2012 and 2013 in Chicago and Philadelphia the robbery rates did go down a little bit and that could be due to more patrolling in certain areas where the crime is higher, and by doing that will help control those areas and stop the crime from
Happening.
