MUSIC Music can be defined in many ways, but to summarize all the definitions, music can be defined as the art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds or both to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. It is said that a large percentage of old people who sing at the choir enjoy the harmony created and feel at peace. It is not really known from where music originated, but most probably the earliest humans to feel emotion probably found a way to express it using "organized sound". The first form of music may have come from hunting whistles - examples of these go back over 40,000 years.

IMPORTANCE OF MUSIC. The value of music on a man's emotional life has been generally recognized. Its essence being the harmonious production of melodious sound. The primitive or the unsophisticated man, after the day's toils and troubles, found ease and was relaxed in music and dance: rhythm (a regular, repeated pattern of sounds, stresses or beats in music) itself is a great tranquilizer. At the other end of the scale of civilization, lie great thinkers and scientists who refresh their tired brain by music. Shakespeare goes so far as to say that : The man who has no music in himself, Nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, Is fit for treasons, siratagems and spoils.

Thus, music has the undoubted power of composing emotional disturbance and restoring the mind to tranquility. Henry Purcell offered us sadness with minor keys and happiness with major keys. I really do not have much experience nor really understand keys but, I think Purcell’s uses of the minor and major keys makes since because minor means low and unimportant and that is how you feel when ever you are sad. While, major stands for important and significant and when the feeling of happiness domains your spirit, you feel on top of the world. I think it was very effective his technique of key usage to make the audience feel sad or happy. If you hear a low key you feel depress, low energy, and sad and when you hear a major key blasting thru the auditorium I am sure it inspires you, put you in a happy mood.…

From a young age we have learned what music is, from hearing the sounds of our mothers voice, to hearing pots and pans bang in the kitchen while dinner is being prepared. When I looked up the definition of music it said "The art of arranging sounds in time so as to produce a continuous, unified, and evocative composition, as through melody, harmony, rhythm, and timbre." Which means that music can pretty much be made out of everything we can get our hands on.…
