Mutated E. Coli Research Paper
The devolvement of medical advancements can accelerate medical practices and help health care providers work more efficiently. One of these medical advancements would be a mutated E. coli. So how exactly can a mutated E. coli be an advancement? Well what scientist recently discovered is that this certain mutated bacteria actually will color urine to help diagnose medical diseases. So perhaps this mutated E. coli can make diagnosing certain issues a quicker process than before. One disease this E. coli mutant helps diagnose is diabetes. To elaborate on how this altered bacteria works to find diabetes comes down to the ability to find glucose. This is due to the fact that a high quantity of glucose in the urine is an indication for diabetes. As a result of high levels of glucose, the mutated E. coli changes to a red color as it reaches its maximum amount of glucose. To summarize, this method is a quick diagnoses compared to previous diagnosing strategies. In addition to diabetes this E. coli also helps diagnose liver cancer. How the scientists figured this out is by feeding mice with liver cancer the mutated E. coli to make the hidden enzymes glow. Considering the scientist were able to successfully diagnose diabetes and liver cancer, it can be concluded that this will change the medical field for the better. For example, since liver cancer is so hard to detect and by them being able to diagnose it with just a urine sample can save thousands of lives. Also, as this medical advancement continues in research we will be able to detect other types of cancers or hard to find diseases.
