Course Description:
Introduction to derivatives, calculation of derivatives of algebraic and trigonometric functions; applications including curve sketching, related rates, and optimization. Exponential and logarithm functions. Prerequisite: Mathematics 2A placement via the Calculus Placement exam (fee required), or a grade of C or better in Mathematics 1B at UCI, or a score of 3 on …show more content…
Remember to bring your student ID. Students are expected to be present for all exams. There are no early exams. No make-up midterm exams will be offered. [In the event of a verifiable emergency, you must contact me as soon as possible, and in any case, prior to the next regularly scheduled class. Once verified, your Final Exam score will count for your missed midterm score. If your absence is not verified, your midterm score will remain 0.]
Quizzes
Quizzes will be given in your discussion section each week. Each quiz is cumulative, but with a heavy emphasis on the prior week’s material. No make-up quizzes will be allowed. Your lowest quiz score will be dropped.
WeBWorK
WeBWorK (WWK) is an Internet-based system for generating and delivering homework type problems to students. Its goal is to support instruction and text-based assigned homework problems and has been a part of the UCI lower division math instruction for many years. (WWK is also used by the chemistry and physics departments.) For an overview of WWK and some of its valuable features, go to: http://webwork.maa.org/wiki/Main_Page
- WWK is available at http://homework.ps.uci.edu/webwork/
- It is recommended that you begin by reading the material at the bottom of the main page.
- Select the appropriate course code for your Math 2A/2B class.
- Log in with your regular UCINetID (same one you use to get into …show more content…
Students found in violation of the code are subject to penalties ranging from loss of credit for work involved to a grade of F in the course, and possible risk of suspension or probation. The academic dishonesty policy will be enforced in all areas of the course, including homework, quizzes, and exams.
