Many times in life there are obstacles that some people are unable to overcome, yet there are some people who have the ability to overcome these obstacles in life. In Jeannette Walls’ memoir, The Glass Castle, tells us about a girl who was in poverty with a father that was very paranoid and logical, and a mother who is free-spirited. Even though she went through hardships she was still able to learn lessons, and was able to push forward to become a remarkable author. Although human resilience has multiple definitions, I believe it is the ability to keep pressing forward because in the book The Glass Castle Jeanette Walls pushed through obstacles to become a famous author.…

Another intangible trait that I can relate to is Lyddie’s determination. Lyddie is determined to go to work and earn enough money to pay back her father’s debts. For example the book states on page 57 “I must make money to help my mother pay for the house.” Lyddie is determined to get her family back together again. In the book Lyddie works hard because she is determined to achieve her goals. I am determined too because I have goals in band that I want to achieve. I am determined to help any 6th graders in band that are having trouble and help them pass. I practice hard and play with…

c.) Persistence -- A specialized knowledge or skill is not required to persevere. Perseverance is something anyone can learn. Persistence enables us face challenges and overcome obstacles. “As long as I kin wake up, I’m gonna git up”. Persistence comes with a shift in our awareness followed by change in our behavior. It encourages one to forge ahead and push harder not paying attention to circumstance. “I found myself in an endeavor that would take me beyond even my wildest aspirations”. Entrepreneurship is not “get rich quick” and expecting it to be easy; the secret is sheer perseverance and determination. No matter the situation someone is facing, resilience is a must have characteristic in order to survive their circumstances, and not let it overtake them. A great amount of resilience is shown by Kayla Montgomery, a long-distance runner with Multiple Sclerosis. Despite her loss of feeling in your legs, Kayla fights back and overcomes her challenge. Kayla said, “I make myself do it, I tell myself, ‘I know you’re tired and you can’t feel anything and it’s hard but you’re going to finish this.’ And then I do” (Crouse). Like Kayla, a survivor is a fighter. No matter their situation, in order to survive they must be resilient and have the ability to overcome even their toughest challenges and situations. When an individual shows resilience, there is no circumstance they cannot…
