My Antonian Apache's Influence On My Life
Being an Antonian Apache means a lot to me and my family. Going to school here has always been on my mind since middle school. My sister came here and I wanted to achieve the same success, education, friendships, and high school experience as she. I saw that she was having a great time and receiving an even better education. She would come home every night with homework so I knew it wasn’t a walk in the park. I was already taking the highest math and was in all honors in middle school. I knew that I needed to improve my work ethics and study habits so that I could do well in high school. I studied for the HSPT and Geometry Entrance Exam to make sure I got into Antonian and make it into Geometry.
Once I was accepted into Antonian I was bombarded with homework and tests. I had to adapt to cope with Antonian’s education system. Quizzes were more frequent and were more challenging. I was determined to succeed like my sister and adapted to the system after some time. My sister was in the top ten when I came to Antonian so I wanted to be up there in at least the top 25 percent. I worked hard to achieve my academic goal and set myself up for a good college in the future.

My sister played Cross Country, Basketball, Track, and Softball. Being in the Piña family meant two things: doing well in school and playing multiple sports. Although it wasn’t easy at first, it was a part of my high school experience which also gave me great friends. Before entering my freshman year I did summer workouts with the cross country team that would become the State Champion cross country team later that year. After we won my freshman year, I knew that I wanted to be a part of a team that could succeed. So I worked hard and eventually became on the State Team my junior year. I also worked hard in Soccer, Baseball, and

Growing up, my siblings and I participated in a variety of competitive sports. For my brother and me, this consisted of soccer, basketball, and running track. We would constantly practice together and would make every aspect of it a competition. For example, whoever was breathing hardest at the end of a sprint lost, whoever shot more goals in soccer won, and whoever could dodge and fake out the other was the best athlete in the family. I would try and try to beat my brother but he always found a way to get the upper hand. Compared to my brother, I saw myself as a failure. It wasn’t until one parent teacher conference night that i realized that I was far more academically capable than my older brother. I had better grades and was more well liked…

As a student-athlete itself, I have a pretty unique high school experience. Over the past 4 years, I have learned how to manage my time better, how to get things done in a timely fashion, as well as how to efficiently multi-task. However, to even further my unique high school experience, I am also a dedicated member of the marching band (and I hold the title of Trombone section leader), concert band, jazz band, concert choir, and spring musical, all while also being dedicated to field hockey. Although these choices stressed me out to no end due to multiple practices, competitions, and games being scheduled all at the same time, I would not have given up this experience for anything. It helped me to grow as a student, as an athlete, as a musician, and most importantly, as a person.…

As a freshman, I made the varsity volleyball team. With this position came a lot of responsibility and pressure. My teammates always looked at me as the “baby”, but they expected me to play at the same level as the seniors. I learned how to deal with difficult personalities and I learned how to commit myself to a team and a sport. I also learned that I was a role model to other teammates and young volleyball players. Just like the Pink Ranger, people looked up to me and I tried to lead by example throughout my volleyball career.…

I came from a family of really athletic people. My Mom and sister Kaitlyn both played softball from a young age and had many great accomplishments. My sister Kassidy played soccer from a young age as well. I have a lot to live up to. I started playing soccer when I four and I played for one year until I was no longer interested in it anymore. I started softball when I was five, and it wasn’t my favorite. I then retreated back to soccer for a few years. When I was in second grade, I cut my ankle on the bowl that my dog broke when I was trying to get cereal because I was hungry. After that I really didn’t want to play soccer anymore, so I decided to retire my soccer cleats forever. After this, I tried various different ranging from swim team to softball, and as you can imagine, softball stuck. When it did though, it came with my hot-headed personality showing. There was no way around it. I was also very independent, which could be a good thing in some cases, but as I got older I was required to do more group work. I just didn’t know how to.…

As a first generation student coming from a family originating from Chihuahua, Mexico, the pressure has always been at an all time high to succeed. Rather than grow and depart from my roots of Chihuahua, I've decided to embrace and further educate myself on those roots. My family and ancestry comes from a small city named Santa Barbara in the state of Chihuahua. As a child growing up in California I wasn't very in touch with those small town roots. As a child, having visited my grandfather during my summer vacations I became socially aware of a group of people self titled the Rarámuri’s.…

Joining the future business leaders of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, becoming a youth leader at Christ Church, as well as many other volunteering activities helped me enrich my community, and make an impact in the world around me. Along with these organizations, I have played several sports in high school, in my junior and senior years I settled on my two favorite sports, track and field, and volleyball. Within these sports I have made friendships with my teammates I will never forget, and learned important lessons in humbleness when winning, and cohere with my friends when losing. By being a member of any sports teams at my high school, I regularly attended many of my school’s events, giving me the opportunity to develop relationships, and gain a tremendous sense of pride in my school. I am looking forward to bringing this same sense of pride to my college, and making many new friendships along the way. I learned over the course of my education to this point, that when I became more involved with these activities, my performance in the classroom increased alongside my…

Growing up in a community that is mostly Hispanic creates a type of shield, not allowing for different cultures or ethnicity to diversify the community. A Hispanic family living in such an isolated community takes a toll on the way we view the world. This environment has indulged my curiosity. Being the second youngest sibling of my family of seven has allowed me to learn from my older brothers, and have the privilege to be a leader to my little brother and serve as a role model to him. Though none of my family members went to college, and my parent’s highest education being a high school diploma, it hasn’t discouraged me to follow their footsteps, but rather give the encouragement to dedicate myself to be the first generation and in my whole…

As a child I wasn’t able to participate in too many activities. I had two other siblings and it just wasn’t feasible for my parents to enroll us in a lot of extracurricular events. My sister took ballet as a child. I would attend classes with her and I would watch her perform her routines. I became interested in what she did but I didn’t think “ballet” was for me, but I did want to participate in some form of performing arts. I liked to dance but ballet was too slow paced for me. I informed my mother about how I felt, letting her know that I wanted to take dance classes. She obliged and soon signed me up for tap and jazz classes.…
