In my CCRC community I will focus on a few main principles: Freedom, independance, quality personal care and constructive stimulation. Many older adults feel robbed of the lives they’ve build when they are moved into a retirement community. They often feel trapped, discouraged, lonely and bored. In my community, I would make an effort to maintain an active, fulfilling life for each resident while still providing top-of-the-line medical care.

It is a button that can be worn on a lanyard when pushed, signals an emergency center to come to the rescue. This product gives a sense of security to seniors who live alone or spend time alone. If they were to fall and not be able to move or get to a phone, they are able to push the Life Alert and get the help they need. This product is similar to having a button to call a nurse in a hospital or a blue button on college campuses. While the product is helpful in theory, the advertisements are really ageist. That commercial, as well as their newer ones, are infantilizing towards older adults and make them seem frail and helpless. Many older adults could benefit from a Life Alert, but are reluctant because of the stigma behind the product. No older adult wants people to think they are like the woman in the Life Alert
