My First Day At Lee-Davis High School
First day of school of my senior year, a very big day, this is the last time I would walk the halls of Lee-Davis High School on a first day. Suddenly all the pressure starts to begin figuring out what goes on in the future. A big day with the realization that by June, I will be walking across the stage along with my fellow classmates and earning my diploma, also knowing that after that day I will not see 90% of the classmates in the near future. Although the last first day was a very special day with all the faculty motivating you, while at the same time bombarding you with questions of the future. My day and my whole life was greatly impacted at the blink of an eye when I was sitting in my science class, awaiting to find out who would be in my class and where I would sit. Then it all changed, she walked in and there was this feeling of slow motion as I laid my eyes on her, suddenly all my problems and big questions had been answered. Although, many may question why meeting someone would make such a huge impact, but with every life, every person, there is a …show more content…
I came over so we could watch football and relax. Both of our lives shifted dramatically, although hers changed more than mine. She suffered a stroke at such a young age and I was the only one there to help. We had called her mother and tried to explain the situation but neither of us were in the right mindset to talk. I spent hours upset at the fact that I may lose the person that meant most to me. It was destined that I was supposed to be there to save her and get her to medical attention right in time. I spent days in the hospital wanting to be by her side at all times. She made it through perfectly with no permeant damage, she was my hero, my spirit horse and this showed me that anything is possible through her that she can do

As I wake up to the smell of fresh breakfast biscuits on a hot August morning, I get the sudden feeling of nervous butterflies in my stomach. Today was mine and Cassie’s first day at the Jefferson Davis School, a former whites-only school, who wanted us to join. No one really knows why, but Mama agreed. Mama came into my room to get me out of bed, then to Cassie’s. Both of us were extremely anxious and did not want to go, but Mama did not want to hear it, so we kept quiet and obeyed. After dressing up in our nice clothes and eating a good breakfast, we ran to ride the bus for the very first time. Cassie and I were going to be put in the same classes because we are new, despite our age difference. As we approached the bus, Jeremy, who was in line, spotted us. “Hey Cassie! Hey Stacey!” he called out. “I heard you guys are coming to the…

I was fully optimistic that the day would go well, but it did not fall in the plan that I believed it would. It was the same routine in a new environment. The speech as long but informational. It was a familiar speech that I had heard every first day of school. I walked with one of my other close friends to my fifth-period class, language arts- my favorite. Upon entering the classroom, I immediately recognized the teacher. She had been my favorite on shadow day. She went on to teach us, or rather just talk to us about herself and what our year would look like. Her humorous and friendly persona calmed and reassured me. It pulled me away from the first-impression mindset and helped me realize how important it was just to ¨enjoy the moment¨ and to just be myself, like she was doing in that moment. I was ready to finish the day strong.…
