Senior Year

Senior Year It was the fall of 1984; I was a senior in high school, this wasn’t a new school for me. Getting to school that morning proved to be very exciting, entering the doors at Hanau American High, this was going to be my last first day of school there. We were all excited to see each other, although we may have seen each other during the summer, for the most part some of my fellow classmates lived an hour away from me. This time I walked in with my head held high, I was a senior. Excited about starting my senior year, this at the time was supposed to be the best school year of my life. There was so much to look forward too, and really knowing deep down that this school year was going to fly by and we would all be headed in opposite directions.
As the school year continued to go in full force, we started to prepare for all of the different activities that were ahead of us. The first main event that took place was homecoming, in Germany or at least my high school homecoming is where all of the different sports actually have a home game. Not one of the teams traveled to a different school that weekend, so every one of us was home. It made for a fun filled weekend. Getting ready for homecoming spirit week, getting ready for the dance, buying a dress, getting my hair done these were all things that came with that special weekend or day I guess. This was just something that I wasn’t looking forward to although it was going to be one of the best times I was going to have my senior year.
As the school year continued, things got to be even more eventful, spring break was coming up. This was something I was looking forward too for three years now. Although I was so looking forward to going or attending spring break activities, I had a job ahead of me. It wasn’t going to be easy to talk my parents into letting me go on the spring break trip which was in Spain. This is something that every year our school participated in; I

Amber was finally graduating high school. She could not wait for it to come any faster. I told her that she needed to slow down and not grow up so fast, but here she was graduating high school. Amber graduated with honors and in the top ten. I was so glad that she followed in her mother’s footsteps. Accepted to Juilliard for dance, Amber left that following August. I cried the whole time I watched that plane leave. New York was a long way from home.…

I remember it all. I can still feel the warm summer wind gliding my sun-kissed cheeks. I didn’t usually have all of my windows down while I drove, especially not on the way to my lackluster burden, otherwise known as my job. Today was an exception, however, summer was quickly approaching its end, and I would be once again bound by the chains of high school. I decided to cherish every little bit that I had left. As I pulled in, I thought to myself, “just another ordinary day of work.” Oh…

On a spring day in 2011, what do you think of? Is it the flowers you planted or is it the birds as they chirped and created a melody? For me? It was a friday night. Now, you may ask, a friday night? What is so special about that? That night was one of the first times my heart set sail as my feet, one by one, stepped onto the softball field in Hallstead, Pennsylvania. I was in sixth grade, you know that grade that you start switching classes, being held more responsible, and were expected to be independent. Me? I was out to…

On the second day of school during my sophomore year, I realized how much Wahlert meant to me. It had become my home, the place where I felt like I belonged; school almost even seemed like a break from summer. Over the summer, I had become an empty shell and spent my time at the computer wasting the time away; the only interactions I had were with my family, and on rare occasion with my best friends, when we had sleepovers. To see the people I had missed over the summer was great. All of these things felt so true in that moment.…

Summer 2010 was great for me. I did a lot of stuff this summer and hung out with a lot of friends but the highlight was riding to Wasco every Saturday morning. I would meet up with Chris Impson and we would usually hang out for the whole day. I live in St. Charles so I would have a 8 mile ride down there and sometimes we would ride bikes all the way back to my house so it was quite the work out. Other days I would ride my bike to Wasco and meet up with Christopher then ride to another friends house and spend the day there. I am really satisfied with the way my summer went. I did more than just saw friends though, I went to Wisconsin, spent a week in Missouri by myself, and rode dirt bikes on our farm. While I was in Missouri I did a lot like help my Grandpa out and played a lot of baseball.…

It was toward mid-senior year in high school. Maybe February. I was anticipating which colleges would accept someone like me, and trying to enjoy as much time with friends as I could. I was with my best friends, appreciating a beautiful Southern California day, and had come to realize my last days as a senior were coming to a close. I was a perfect day; big white clouds covered the skies, along with the beaming sun hitting the earth. The oceans breeze in our faces, and our shades on. High-wasted shorts and crop tops were the main clothing we’d wear, and if it were cold we’d just layer a sweater over it. We were living the “Cali lifestyle” because I live in an area where most of the students at my high school were half Caucasian and half Asian. I live in an area where the beach is only ten minutes away. Seeing dolphins or whales from the cliffs is a regular sight to see. Going to big bear during the winter is normal, and so are trips to Hawaii. Fortunately I had the opportunity to meet the greatest friends and best friends I will ever have in my life. But there is a lot you still don’t know.…

In order to be a successful student there are many requirements that a person needs to complete before calling themselves a "student". In the reading, “The achievement of desire” Richard Rodriguez was a student who faced many challenges that made him work hard and earn what he wanted to obtain out of his education. Another important character in the reading “Learning to read” who also wanted to challenge the status quo and prove his community that nothing is impossible was Malcolm X. He fought for the black people 's rights and encouraged others to maintain strong and solid. To be more specific, it takes dedication, intelligence, self-determination and creativity in order for a student to receive better results and advantages.…

There is a lot of basics to survive your freshman year. You have to try to stay on the good said with the seniors. Occasionally, the upperclassman will pick on you because you are the youngest in the school. Also, try to do your work in the high school. This is not middle school anymore where the teachers just tell you the answers. Starting your freshman year, start looking at colleges and what you want to be when you graduate because colleges will look at that with your grades. Don’t think all the upperclassman is friends with you because just because they talk to you doesn’t mean they aren’t going to pick on you for being the youngest. Try to stay on the teacher’s good side too because they don’t always let you return in late work especially…

“Graduation, the hush-hush magic time of frills and gifts and congratulations and diplomas.” You weren’t lying when you said that Maya Angelou. May 19th, 2013 I had dreamt of that day for almost four years. I know I can’t be the only person who feel this way. I remember it as if it was just yesterday. So many different emotions going through my mind all at once. Happiness, Sadness, I felt relieved because it was almost over but at the same time I felt anxious and overly excited to just leave and go far away. 389 seniors were going to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas. After all, our class had the biggest percentage of graduates who were actually…

Freshman year was exciting, because of finally being in the high school. Soon realizing that almost everyone thinks you are stupid and want nothing to do with you. Between that and being confused on where to go, what to do, and when to shut up, it was nerve wrecking to say the least. Thinking you are a stud and the coolest kids around does not really help with the upper classmen. Being able to participate in high school sports just makes the experience all the better and going to homecoming and formal was a blast. No worries besides school and what you were going to do that weekend with your friends. Being able to drive anywhere you pleased made you feel all the more free.…

Pregnant at seventeen and no foundation of stability, I dropped out of school to prepare to raise my child. I then began to struggle and had a hard time making ends meet, so at that time I got on track to seek help and guidance. I started the process to get enrolled in school but backed out due to finding out at nineteen I was expecting my second child. I finally went back to school and got my GED and graduated my program in summer of 2010. I walked across the stage to receive my diploma carrying my son Joziah Jah’Von (5 months) and holding my daughter Ajiona Amory’s hand (2 years). I was very proud and felt extremely accomplished. The importance returning to school will have on my life is that I will be able to provide a stable life for my children, become successful and self-fulfilled through a career in business, and rise above the negative expectations some people have of me.…

We’ve been through a lot, KEEP, Hiroshima, Izu, Showa Park... wait I wasn’t really there in all of that. I’ve actually only been here for a year, but coming to ASIJ was a life changing experience, and I feel like I have been here for pretty much my whole life. As this year went by, I already felt like you guys were a part of my family and even in this year, that seemed to fly right before my eyes, we all have been through a lot. Fun times, hard times, sad times, and even those dreadful days with too many tests. Even if this is the American School in Japan, all of us come from all over the world and that’s what makes us global, and I had realized as the year went by that what’s unique about our grade is each and every one of us is different, with our own personality, hobbies, and character. Remember, Bonus 30 SEL guys. I learnt that we all had a unique way of expressing ourselves, which taught me to…

Starting my Junior year back at savanna again I was ready to make a change and be different from my sophomore year. I already knew what class I was going to take and what I was going to do so that I could go to college. In the first couple weeks of my junior year my grades were okay. I had A,B, and C. In my english Class I had a B and that was the first time I had a B in english since I was in junior high. The reason that I had a B in english my junior year was because of my teacher Ms. Stele. She helped me out a lot in my english class. She made the work very easy to understand and always should use examples and and sometimes videos of what we had to do. Then in my history class I had a decent grade because of my teacher Ms. Calles.…
