Graduation day! As I stand in line waiting for my name to be called I look around the enormous gymnasium full of happy families taking pictures and all my fellow classmates smiling and clapping. While I look around I notice that I am shaking in my maroon gown, and I feel a trickle of sweat coming down my face. As I start to get closer to the stage my heart starts to race and I can’t stop myself from smiling. Finally I walk onto the tall, long stage and hear my whole name being called out and everyone in the gym started to cheer. I then realize that all of my hard work has paid off, for I am graduating. During high school I was assigned tons of homework to the point I had to sacrifice time with my friends, family and even sleep, but this taught me work ethic. Whenever I had homework I always went the extra mile to do my work. I would study any chance I got whether it was at work, during my workouts or sometimes early in the mornings before the sun came up just to get that extra study time. I would wake up tired, groggy and really wanting to go back to bed, but I knew that if I didn't put in the extra hours into my homework I wouldn't learn the material and then I would end up failing. Luckily I graduated and got the chance to do both of those things. Many of my friends wished they could have joined the Marines but they were held back because they didn't have the discipline to do their work to graduate. When I spoke to my recruiter Staff Sergeant Gonzalez told me that the reason not many people get to enlist is because they don’t have a diploma.
