Personal Narrative: Joining The SEAL Team
My parents tried to get me to go to college after high school, but I was a stubborn eighteen year old boy who wanted to “see the world.” I thought I knew what was best and decided to join the Marines. I thought about the Navy because I had always been a good swimmer and loved the water. That was really not a very good basis to make a life changing decision. However, I excelled on all the tests and was told I qualified for the SEAL team. Everyone thought this was amazing and quite an opportunity. I did not know exactly how dangerous being a part of this team could be until after I was sent on my first mission. There were missions that were part of your duty, and you had to participate in these. Then there were secret missions and you had to volunteer for them. For a secret mission, you were given what the chance of surviving the mission would be and then you made up your mind. Only after you accepted and were on your way to execute …show more content…
He was filthy, starving and looked like a wounded animal. This was ironic as Saddam was known for being obsessed with hygiene and never wanted to be in contact with any germs. After finding Saddam, I was assigned to take him back to stand trial. I was given the order if he tried to escape to shoot to kill, and don’t miss the target. We traveled at night to hide from the insurgents who wanted to capture Saddam and make him pay for how brutal he had treated the people of Iraq. This was very dangerous and it was hard to watch for the mines that had been planted in the sand that would blow up if you stepped on them. I finally arrived at the base where the military officials took him off my hand. I was able to return home the next week, but continued to follow the news about him. He was found guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death by hanging, which took place on December 30,

Despite non-selection, my pursuit of this prestigious and challenging position will not be deterred. My naval career, I have continually sought positions of greater responsibility and produced exceptional results in each of those positions. While I take great pride in being a Chief Petty Officer, I feel the experience I have acquired as a Chief will benefit any wardroom I am a member of. It is important to note that I did not submit an LDO-CWO package for FY-14 due to the time constraints I experienced while standing up Naval Beach Unit SEVEN with an under staffed office and operational commitment.…

It would be an honor and a privilege to continue my service as a Surface Warfare Officer. I had the pleasure of being assigned to the USS Chung-Hoon during my senior Midshipman cruise. While on the Chung-Hoon, I was tasked with assuming the role of conning officer. I was held to the same expectation as my running mate; I was to have in-depth knowledge of the ship’s navigational capabilities, report for duty fully prepared to assume responsibilities, and, at all times, be diligent when working in unison with the different departments of the ship in order to assure safe navigation. Working with the officers and crew on the Chung-Hoon was the greatest lesson in leadership I experienced, and serves as the point in my life where I knew I was destined to be a warfighter. I know that as a Surface Warfare Officer,…

There is a fire that ignites within me when I talk about my aspirations in life. A fire that burns so brightly that it can not only be seen physically in the way my hazel eyes light up, but felt radiating from my soul through the conversations that others have with me. Even when I was younger this fire always burned within me to better the world and aid those suffering in it. For some of my friends this same fire manifested into them becoming doctors, for me however it manifested into becoming a marine mammal veterinarian.…

The military has impacted my life in a weird way. I had a dream of becoming a Navy Seal for the longest, but my mother ironically told me “ you will not be in the military” and told me all of these reasons like you have asthma so you cant go. That never stopped me, I still wanted to be a seal. I studied everything about the Navy Seals to their habits all the way to their workouts. Studying the lifestyle of a Navy Seal has impacted me because it made me a better man during my time in high school. One of the most helpful things I got from a Navy Seal interview was wake up at 4AM. I can say waking up at 4 AM was hard but it made total sense. We only have 24 hours in a day and most the day is occupied by work or school and after that we have activities.…

All my life I have found myself following in my sister’s footsteps. During her high school years, she was on the drill team. Therefore, I made it one of my dreams and goals to be a part of it as well. I had danced for about five years prior to trying out, and I was certain that I would make the team. After trying out, my friends and I all gathered together to open the letters which would tell us if we did or did not make the team. Unfortunately, I did not. I was devastated for several weeks after tryouts. As time passed; however, I realized how much of a blessing it was to not make that team. Not making the drill team has opened up doors to many different opportunities that I would not have had if I were a part of the team. I would not have…

Joining the military can end up being a pretty big mistake for many. When I joined I was really didn’t understand what a person has to give up to be a soldier. My obligations to my state and country prevented me from getting into college when I had originally planned. As a result I ended up not continuing my education for another thirteen years. Realizing that a military family isn’t so much a family unit as it is a single parent home with an occasional helper was the point when I knew that becoming a soldier was a mistake for me.…

My second choice of career is to join the marines or navy if nursing does not work out for me. My one goal in life is to just find something that I would love to do for the rest of my life and stick with it, and that would definitely be accomplished if I went into the military field. The reason I want to do this is because I want to explore the world and stop evil around the world. I could see myself in the military helping people and saving them. The fact is, people join the military for thousands of different reasons, yet the end result is always service at a price, and at its most selfless. I am compelled to serve, sacrifice and persevere to ensure the guarantees of freedom and liberty, and to be part of something bigger than my own self. I want to make the point clear that I am not only aware of this responsibility, but feel confident and ready to be accountable on this level. This has been my dream, and I have prepared myself for this role, both on paper and in my…
