My idol Growing up as a child and into a woman. Meeting and spending time with my great grandmother has always been a wish of mine. Though she passed away several years before I was born, this feeling of wanting to meet her has emerged within me with each passing year. I guess, it is all because she raised my mother and did a fantastic job. So then I just needed to thank her for molding such a blessed mum for me.
Mira my unknown inspiration , always loved her local and organic home grown foods. She rarely ate processed food and considered such as poison for the human body. Therefore if I were to share a meal with her it would definitely be her favorite, which was stewed codfish with coconut milk served with green bananas and a cup of hot Caribbean cocoa tea. This she called the power food for man. My mother told me that she loved praying and always had an answer to every problem that you might face in life no matter how serious you might believe it might be. We would discuss the way in which the world has changed drastically over the decades and why we think it has gotten this way. Also the many ways I should deal with the obstacles that may come my way in life .For many times we as young people lose our way in life and it is because of the simple reason of being unfocused. All we need to do is to take life one step at a time and we will see our way through and this is what Mira taught her children . If this opportunity should come my way one day my main question to her would be what satisfaction did she get from being the kind, understanding, prayerful, forgiving and loving person she was. Many times we wish that there was someone we could go to when we feel troubled and ask this one question. What can I do to fix this? At present I am thinking of taking on a new career and for just this once I would seek her advice on what career should I choose. I am certainly sure my dear old great

Her husband described her as tough to deal with, but being sweet and loving overpowered. Her husband said she could be a real pain in the butt, but that never stopped his love for her. Her co workers described her as raising the children in daycare as if her own. She treated each and every one of the children equally. Anything her male children could do, her female ones could and vice versa. The children loved having her in class. Some of them can even be seen here today. Her friends described her as outgoing, caring, and loving. If they ever needed someone to talk to, she was there. If they ever needed help, she was there. We will conclude this today with a few more words. Laura was a loving mother, wife, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Her friends and family miss her dearly, but she is in a better peaceful…

When she passed I cried, for days and days I cried. I felt like someone had just torn away a huge chunk of my heart and replaced with tears and grief. My mother tells me I am just like my grandmother. I love helping others, hearing their problems and giving insight. My grandmother, she would listen and give advice and she helped me learn a lot of things about myself that I never knew. I am writing this essay, but all I can think about is how much her personality captivated me to be who I am today and that I want to make people feel better about themselves. I want that more than anything. I want to motivate. I want to help someone find the light at the end of a dark tunnel. I want to listen and learn from people dealing with struggles, help them…

I have left for extended periods for professional or academic ventures in the past but Vanessa and I both are deeply rooted in my parent’s home. Between December of 2008 and July of 2009 Vanessa lost a grandmother, two great grandmothers and a great grandfather. She was blessed with seven years of her life in which she was able to get to know the generation of people that she had come from. In 2005 her father moved in with his elderly mother and grandmother after his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer; shortly thereafter my maternal grandfather began to rapidly deteriorate, physically and mentally, at which time he moved in with us. Vanessa gained a great respect for the elderly as well as life experiences and knowledge one can only gain by exposure to older generations; however, these blessings came with lessons in illness and death and the real life challenge of coping with the sadness of end of life deterioration and the loss of loved ones. Vanessa understood that death was the inevitable end to life in the flesh, but she also understood that her loved ones were starting a new life in heaven. Instead of displaying exclusively classic signs of grief that would normally be seen in a child her age under the circumstances, she approached coping with a bitter sweet perspective that…

One of the most memorable moments I have experienced was four years ago, when I traveled from Matamoros, Tamaulipas to San Antonio, Texas. I had the opportunity of visiting San Antonio for the first time, and more importantly, of spending time with my family who I had not seen in years prior to the trip. Spending time with my family is of great value and importance to me, so I became utterly excited to see them as soon as I had the chance.…

When I was nine years old my parents would no longer let me see my grandma Anne from my dad’s side, because she was an alcoholic. She was always drinking and it got to the point that when she would come over to our house my parents would have to go hide all the alcohol. Sadly my grandma Anne passed away a few years later of kidney failure ultimately because of the drinking. I never got to see her before she passed, but I remember the way her hands felt like silk when I would hold them and she smelt like freshly cut flowers on a rainy day.…

Even to this day, I don't know how my grandma had so much love for someone who she could barely remember. Yet, since my grandma's condition was bad I naturally helped out my family with my great grandma. I would bring in and out sodas for her since she had a mad addiction to the fizzy drink, and sometimes I would bring her hot meals. Even though doing all of that was great, my favorite thing to do for her was to keep her company. On the most beautiful of days, we would go out and sit on the neon yellow swing set in front of our house in early afternoons when the leaves were turning a beautiful shade of brown and the weather was just the right temperature. The wind sang alluring songs in your ears as the branches of the lush trees danced to the melody. I can picture it just like it was yesterday. The pond next to us glimmered a light blue color as the swing squeaked in glee. She would sing the same tune each time and i would drift into a world of peace and tranquility where nothing else mattered at that moment. But as a little girl, I took those special moments for granted. I was too oblivious to know that good things don't last forever, they never…

Many times in life, we come across a tough, influential person who leaves a great and powerful impact on our lives. Maybe it is an actress, superhero, family, teacher, or just a stranger who did something that changes your thoughts and decisions about life. Fortunately, I came across to someone who supported me from the very beginning of the journey of my life. That person is my beloved mother, who taught me to walk my first steps, who introduced me to the crazy side of life, and who has always been there for me when I needed her. Ever since I could remember, she has been right beside me supporting any goal I was trying to reach, even when it was incredibly ridiculous to everybody else.
