My Learning Prefrences
My Learning Prefrences
In taking the learning prefrence quiz, it was identified that I learn almost equally with all three preferences. I personally believe that I am more of a tactile learner than anything. I tend to remember information better when I am hands on with situations, instead of hearing someone just explaining to me the idea of it. Starting with my lowest being a visual learner, at a score of an 11, I learn better seeing pictures or visual demonstrations rather than just reading a book or hearing a lecture. In many situations that is true, however with being a visual learner comes with the eagerness and enthusiasm to learn through reading. I myself am not that type of learner. It is significantly difficult for me to read to myself as well as take in the information I am reading. I was a bit surprised to have such a high score in this preference.
On to auditory learning, where I was scored at a 12, I feel that this is pretty accurate. I do learn quite well listening to information. Whether it is from an audio book or my professor themselves, I find it a much more appealing way to learn. When I am in situations where I am using my autitory preference, I tend to repeat things I hear, read, or see to help me remember more details and intake a larger amount of important information.

I am without a doubt a very strong tactile learner. I enjoy being hands on with almost everything when it comes to learning. Note taking is imparticularly an essential part of my learning abilities. In taking this online course, it made me a little uneasy, because of the fact that I won't have that in person experience with my classmates as well as my professors. However, knowing that I have many different options of getting to communicate with everyone and having my team more hands on than I first thought, I have become extensively more comfortable with the online

I have always been a visual learner, although I did not realize the technical term for my condition as a child, once I became an educator and became aware of the various ways to classify learners based on their abilities and learning style, I quickly discovered who I was and was able to classify myself accordingly. Visual learners are more inclined to gain knowledge through physical interaction and hands on experience with tools they can see, rather than through verbal instructions or explanations. However, it has been my experience that all types of learners find visual aids helpful, even f they are just used as supplemental information to enhance the knowledge they gained through verbal communication. Visual aids, such as process flow charts, are…

Visual learners retain information best when they are able to use flow sheets, maps, diagrams or models when learning new information. This type of learner needs to observe the material in an attractive manner. The visual learner will do best if studying using pictures, logos, designs, colors, or flow charts. According to VARK (Fleming, 2001-2011), visual learners prefer pictures; they tend to look for the whole picture instead of breaking it down, and analyzing each portion. They will remember pictures or diagrams on study pages. Aural learners prefer to hear things; they will re-listen to taped lectures, and should attend discussions. Their class notes might be poor because they tend to listens instead of take notes, but they will recall stories or examples from the lectures. Read/write learners like words or lists; they take a lot of notes, and re-read them over and over. They use dictionaries,…

For Aural, I scored a 9. I do prefer to listen to others as far as opinions and suggestions. For example, having a group project is not an easy task online. In my last class, there was an organized chat room where all students were able to verbally talk to each other via skype or telephone. It was a lot easier to get points through compared to email and text messaging. By verbally listening you can give your opinion right away and get quick feedback and ultimately getting the project done with every one agreeing to the final outcome. With 9 being a high score for Aural I don’t completely agree with the score. It is…

I think I do better acting out how things work while I am studying or doing homework. The assessment did surprise me a little bit because I was not expecting to score high with visual, aural, and read/write. I’m also surprised that I scored Kinesthetic by a point above of visual, aural, and read/write. There are some points where I could have been a visual, aural, and read/write learner. I would like to use visual because at times when I use a graph to look at different percentages that are about many different things, it helps to look at what item is better by the percentage. Aural would help be by listening to what others say about a topic and how they feel about it. It gives me the idea on what others think and how I can follow the topic and not mess up and make a fool of myself. Read/write would help me by reading through directions and following them, or rewriting notes from a power point. I would say kinesthetic is my number one learning ability to have because of being hands-on materials and do actions while I am studying and doing…

Brian Kennedy and our text book both agree that visual literacy is a common language among everyone around the world. However the book go even further into saying that there has to be “visually literate person does not merely possess the capability of vision but goes on to mentally perceive and interpret the meanings of visuals.” (Avgerinou and Ericson, 1997) Essentially we have to understand what we are looking at prior to seeing it for us to get it. Not just the fact that a picture will make us understand it across the board.…

From the study that I have taken in the text on page 212. It stated that I was mainly and sound type of learner. I can see where they can get this as a results for the study and I do agree that I do some of my learning from hearing what is being said about a task that I am doing, But I would have to say that I do not really agree with the study. I know that I am a visual learner, I do my best work If I have some one to show me what types of things that need to be done for a certain task.…

After completing the learning style assessment, the results revealed that I am a visual learner. My score was the highest in the visual category. These are the characteristics of a visual learner: They have strong visualization skills and they can look up (often up to the left) and “see” the information invisibly written or drawn. To add, they are able to make movies in their mind about information previously read and give vivid details. They have visual spatial skills such as sizes, shapes, texture, angles, three-dimensional depths are strong. Also, they have a keen sense of the aesthetics, the beauty of physical environment visual media, or art. I learn better by seeing graph, and charts in my notes or color coding for organization of information. Certainly, these…

    | My preferred general learning style is auditory, which means I do best by hearing. However, I am considered a multi-sensory learner. There are times where I learn best by doing, and then there are other circumstances where I learn best by observation. I am flexible and my preferred learning style really boils down to, it depends on the environment, task, and information being presented.…

I have always found it interesting how everyone can have a different learning style. It does not mean that one person is smarter than the other, and vice versa. Everyone is completely different with how they intake information and their learning skills. My best learning skill is Kinesthetic I am more a “hands on” learner. I have always been more successful and learned better once I actually did something hands on. I can learn verbally, and visual as well but that is my best learning technique.…

Doing the personal evaluation was harder than I expected it to be. The most effective way for me to learn information is the Auditory Learning Style and Kinesthetic Learning Style. My score was 22% Visual, 50%Auditory and 28% Kinesthetic. As I read the tendencies for both the Auditory and Kinesthetic learning styles I checked each tendency that I do on a daily basis and realized that it’s split down the middle. As I was growing up I had a problem retaining information that I read. I would read a paragraph and forget half of what I read or just lose interest in it, then start over again. My first grade teacher caught on to this. When she would read out loud I wouldn’t have any problems remembering what she said. She gave me two things to try. One was to read out loud and see if I remember the information I just read. Two was to read it then write it down. At times I would write the same thing down up to five times. By doing this I was able to retain the information.…

As a learner, I am a highly visual person. What this means is I learn best when processing information through my visual sense. I need to be able to see the information in order to grasp a better understanding of the concept. Oftentimes when I am reading information from a lesson, I need to be able to visualize either the concept in use (a person actually doing a math equation for example) or an actual image of the lesson (an image of war if I am learning about the Revolutionary War, an image of men congregating and arguing if I am learning about the Continental Congress, etc.). Also, if I am reading a textbook, often I find myself either leaving sticky notes on pages that are important, or even highlighting information in order to remember…
