My Life After High School
It all started at the age of eighteen when both of my parents left Mexico to start a new life in the United States to live the “American Dream.” The pressures of conforming to society quickly sunk in and before they knew it, their entire life was dedicated in raising their six kids and working nonstop for forty years. Throughout all those years of being in the US, not once did they decide to continue school to at least get their GED. Having a mother who only went to the sixth grade and a father who dropped out of high school freshman year to work on the fields, definitely put some pressure in regards to continuing my education after high school. As a little girl, my parents have always made it extremely clear that furthering my education is the most important accomplishment one can do in order to successfully achieve your goals. …show more content…

But with the love and support from my family, I knew that I could do it; that I had to do it. Failure wasn’t an option in my book and being able to prove to my parents that leaving their entire life in Mexico and moving to the United States for a better life was worth every single struggle and obstacle they

I enrolled in classes such as financial literacy, business and accounting, and have even joined business groups such as Business Professionals of America. I dedicated my life towards achieving a better education not because of my mom whom I love wants me to succeed or because I would be the first in my family to complete an advanced education; but for myself. I tread through life only for my success for I am the only one who can be responsible for how my life turns out. I have known since I was a child that education is important and divine for education can be the gateway towards my ascension for greatness; as a result I have taken honors and AP classes whenever they become available. I am proud of the hard work I have put in my education because through my sheer determination I demonstrate to all who can see that Hispanics are not all lazy and undetermined people whom just want to live off the governments programs for immigrants.…

Fortunately, by the fifth grade my parents were able to rent an apartment nearby our school and had found jobs in multiple Brownsville restaurants. After the move, things became much easier and we were able to have a much simpler life, though we were never able to forget the hardships we experienced and the effort we put into enhancing our lives. Today, I am sure my successes as of now are gratifying my parents as I am in the top 10% of my class, the Co-Captain of the Golden Stars Dance Team, member of the National Honor Society, Piano Club, HOSA, and in TRIO UTRGV talent search program. I attend rigorous AP classes to improve my opportunity to attend a university and have the finest future I can give myself. Although my triumphs may not look like much to most, I can assertively say that the trial of going through difficulty to have a superior future has been overcome with the comfort of focus, strength, and the right set of mind to build a better tomorrow for my family and…

The name of the university is Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). I was offered a four year bachelor degree program leading to a degree in Sociology and Social Work. Thus, I read BA Sociology and Social Work. I was so happy at the time because of two reasons. One was that, I had tried twice to be admitted into the countries universities but refused until finally the third time of which I succeeded.
