I remember the day, or rather days, that my Mom and Dad told my siblings and I that we were leaving our home and moving many states away. …show more content…
The first time I was a little boy in elementary school, so as expected the new adventure excited me. I made a real effort to introduce myself to everyone, focus in the classroom, and stay open to experiencing all the new. Five short years later, I found myself in another new school and this time I knew what to do, but faced different challenges as a teenager. This time I was independent and responsible, but more importantly I began to understand the importance of faith, family, and hard work.
Faith and family have been two constants in my life and both have been incredibly important to me as I transitioned to different schools, homes, and parts of the country.
In addition to that, I found a sport that taught me commitment, leadership, and teamwork. I started playing lacrosse in the sixth grade and I haven’t stopped playing since. My teammates hard-working spirit was inspiring, and made me want to work just as hard to improve my skills and bring the best to my team. I discovered how rewarding commitment and hard work could be. I loved learning from my teammates and I loved the opportunities I had to lead my teammates. After seven years of long practices, a mix of winning and losing games, and a group of great friends and teammates, I can proudly say that lacrosse is a part of my story that I will always cherish.
The lessons I learned from moving are ones that I know I will use in my future as a college student. Moving taught me how to stay open to new experiences and step outside of my comfort zone. I learned that people are willing to help, but I also know that taking responsibility for yourself is of equal importance. Faith and family are so valuable to me and I know that no matter what happens I will always have them. I am so excited to continue learning from my experiences and become the best version of myself at Western Washington
University.
